Hi

I have a 1986 k5 blazer with a 350 engine with 600 miles after overhaul, I have to change the first oil after the overhaul and I'm wondering if it's a good idea to switch from mineral oil to full synthetic???

Ideas??

I would let it go a little longer. On my rebuilt engines, I change the oil and filter at about 500, 1500, and 3K.
Then I switch to full synthetic.
You don't really want synthetic until the rings have seated well. It has been known to cause them to not seat.
Plus, the seating process puts wear particles in the oil, and I want to get them out. But I don't want to pay synthetic prices to do it.

After the engine is broken in, I run Amsoil full synthetic. I run it in everything I have except for my genset, but I really should run it in that too since its turbocharged.

But I get cold sweats when I think of buying 5 gallons of Amsoil............

MMMMM royal purple :D

Broke my motor in with RP break in, and bought lots of extra for later :thumb:
