BTW PLZ leave a reason for your choice

i would weld it if you plan on going with a spool. It will save you money, and it will do the same thing. Just a thought.

Any locker is better than no locker! This is my favorite for the 14 bolt! :D
Post up in the wanted section, you might find a set of spider gears already welded for you. It is the same as the mini spool and would probably cost you about $50, plus you'd still have your stock spider gears if you don't like it.

sorry to hi-jack...but how do you weld the spider gears adn then remove them? i have NEVER quite understood it, i just assumed that you would weld at like say 4places in the whole little "spider cluster" if you will, as the way your differential would let you.

subscribed. i hate open diffs!

The thing is from what I hear a Detroit is very unpredictable and a Spool/mini spool is predictable be cause your locked at all times.

I DD my rig but I don't care about tire wear If I need new tires ill buy another set of used or new tires:D

BTW my truck sees 50/50 between on and off road. Every other time my truck is parked and Im on CK5:D

if your talking about what pauly said. he means that bc your just "welding" something taht already exists in your case...yu dont need to "reset" the ring gear. (bc of the diff in carries from your open to say a detroit)

if you meant my question...i dont understand how you weld the spider gears together, and then pull them out of the case.

Offroad only? Open carrier?

If you are offroad only with an open carrier then Mini spool or weld it. Open carriers are strong so there is no reason for a full spool.

If you are onroad much then Detroit.

If you have a govlock and are swapping gears full spool.

DITO!! X3

My Jimmy had a welded spool in the 14, and it is basically a trail only truck. The problem was that when I did have to drive the truck on the street, the spool would drive the truck. If my rear tire pressures werent 100% perfect the truck would weave all over the place. I pulled the spool out, and threw in a Detroit, and I love it. I'd get a Detroit if you could.
