1/2 ton status
And a B&M cooler & Transgo shift kit TH350
Got it all (almost) installed today.
No drivelines, no cooler lines hooked up to the transmission, and the crossmember not bolted in yet. It was dark and cold so we bailed after we got the crossmember across the frame to support it.
Starter being a PITA cause none of the bolt solutions that anyone else used has seemed to work for me. I'll figure it out though, just need some Chevy starter bolts that are 3/8-16 and 1/2 inch longer than the ones I currently have.
BUT the only problem that really worries me...
My new low-stall converter doesn't seem to be bolting cleanly to my new flexplate
The old bolted up fine (flexplate was cracked though) and the new plate matched the old exactly. The converter seems to have the threaded pads in the same spot as my old converter.
2 bolts in, and the third is cocked, no way it's going in. They're new Mr. Gasket bolts (two of the old were cross threaded). I'm going to try different ones, but I need them tomorrow (pulled apart at a friends house). They're the right threads, but they are a bit short for my taste, with only two or three threads engaged. I torqued the flexplate to 75 lbs (15 lbs too much I find when I get home), it sat on the dowel cleanly and seemed centered over the crank button though. I just don't know. Guess I'm off to hunt for some 3/4" long 3/8-16 grade 8 shouldered bolts (like the old) tomorrow hoping it will fix it? Or should I get hex head with washers (like the new)?
If not... 6-inch long bell bolts and sliding it back to check the flexplate
