What are the minimum required modifications for 40" tires on an 81 blazer? The intended wheel and tire is the M35A type to help with thorns. This is an offroad only truck, utility/farm use. No rock climbing or high speeds needed.

Well first ditch the half ton axles, get some 8 lug stuff, regear them unless you find some geared right, lift it quite a bit or hack alot of fender, or some of both, if you jack it up alot you will need driveshafts lengthened most likely....

Sounds like, in the rear, a shackle flip, hub adapters, and some fender trimming is the least expensive method. Are 3/4 ton axles required for light duty use on 40"tires? or is it just cheaper to buy 3/4 axles than to re-gear the 1/2 ton?

On the front... lift kit required I guess?

here is an example of how 8" looks like with 40's

id say a minimum of 6" lift...Minimum of 1 ton axles with 4.88 gears. Must clearance the fenders...

yeah, but nothing came with 4.88 IIRC, so if re-gearing is necessary, go right to 5.38 or more. 6" and a sawzall :)
