I got a stumble at idle and also under load a bad misfire on a tbi 350. besides plugs and wires what could I first start checking? Cant view codes because when i put in my autometers I could not get my cel to work.

Cap, rotor, fuel filter, fuel pump, EGR would be some of the things I'd check first. Can you still scan it? If so I might do that before throwing sensors at it.

most auto parts stores will scan it for free.that would be my first step also.even if there is no check engine light on.

around here they only check it if it is obd2. they will not do obd1

Any half-way decent local garage will be able to scan it. New scanners will work on the old stuff too, as long as the operator isn't too lazy to change a connector and plug a power cord into the cig lighter (or clip to battery terminal).

i got to national auto parts.they have both of the scanners, and alot of other tools you can borow for up to 2 days with a small deposit.
