i just put a sf14,and 6 lug 44 in the front, every thing went pretty easy, hooked every thing up,put it in two hi,drove real good, then locked the hubs, put it in 4lo,then tried to drive,it feels like the e brake is on a little, but it isnt, someone told me the gears dont matchmwe jacked the front up,with hubs locked, and everythjng spins good, same with the rear, only time it does it is when it is in 4 wheel drive, how do you count the teeth to compare, and is there anything else i can check, thanks

Never had to count teeth but Ive found the numbers stamped on the ring gear.

pull the covers and find the ratio's and change the gear oil at the same time for maintence. if like 4.09 front and 4.10 or 4.11 rear thats fine but no 3.08 or 3.42 to a 3.73 or 4.10. the first and second # positions need to match basicly .

unless all out race built stuff. and you know what you are doing.

I'm assuming all 4 tires are the same size?

yeah, it happens.....:D

i will pull covers tomorrow, then count teeth, theres definatelly, some binding goin on here,if the teeth gearing is way off,im sure they will work against each other, like this, was hoping to have it done this weekendmgoin to holly cross next weekend

fyi you cant just grab 2 diffrent axles and get that lucky 98% of the time. you will prob find 2 diffrent ratios.

all four tires are 36'' sx, swampers,i checked pinion angles, too,we will keep workin it,thanks

i pulled both out of a blazer,it was a junker at a guys house,he really wasnt sure about the running gear,i just assumed they were the same size,i guess i was wrong

I personally wont buy axles with out checking the gears or pulling covers.

i know,my bad,but for 150,for the pair,sounded good at the time,we will figure it out tomorrow,maybe regear both,were goin up to 38'' tsl's,thanks

I haven't but i can only imagine that there will be sheet metal carnage.

Pull the rear d-shaft, lock the hubs and put it in 4wd (low or high doesn't matter) and drive it (on the dirt would probably be easier)... if it drives fine then you can count on a gearing dispute between the front and the back but if it still binds then you know it's something in your front end.

or just remove both axles from the truck, take them to your local shop and have them inspect the gearing for issues and check the ratios.

or, lock the hubs, mark the tire, count how many revolutions of the driveshaft it takes for your tire to make 1 revolution. same for rear.

Or drive over to the shop in 2wheel drive .
Of course thats if you cant inspect them yourself.
