My slip yoke is leaking through the splines on my np208.

Is it supposed to be an open spline on the driveshaft, or is there supposed to be some sort of seal?

The splined portion of my driveshaft is just hollow all the way through.

There has been a lot of comment about this. Most yokes have a cap welded on the end of the yoke spline with a small air hole in it.
Some splines leak out the air hole, some don't.

Some folks just say weld up the air hole. Others say there needs to be somewhere for the air to go when the spline moves in and out.
I like the idea of an air hole, but lots of folks seem to have gotten away with welding it up.

However, there do exist rubber seals with teeth that match the splines. You see them on Jeeps for some reason, don't think I have ever seen one on a GM.

I would like to see one for a GM to see if it works.

But, if you can look in the yoke at the U-joint end and see the splines, then it sounds like the little welded cap is missing.

Interesting.

Seems I will need to get myself a cap welded on.

In the interim, would packing the splines with grease form a temporary seal?
