I dont want to regear my 14 bolt, or spend the money on new gears since I might want to go deeper that 4.56 later on..

but I want to match my front axle that has 4.56 gears already.

my rear axel in my 07 classic is a 14 bolt with disk.. and a gov lock, the plan is to either put my brakes and hubs on the older axle if the gears feel good and away I go..

or try to put the gears in my axle and re-use the gov lock and not have to mess with swapping the disk brakes.

I dont know my current wms, but the seller of the 14 bolt is advertising his as being 63 inches, mine is that or faily close if I recall corectly..

any ideas or thoughts? or maybe something in the way I dont know about?

hmm just found a few things

"- 14 Bolt FF / 10.5 Inch Ring Gear / 67-70 Inches Wide: Found in the 2500-3500 Avalanche, Trucks and Vans with 8 Lug Wheel Hub and Usually Drum Brakes (LEAF SPRINGS)"

bummer:(

with the rims I am running the rear already looks narrow as hell, I really dont want to run spacers:doah: maaybe the flange on my axel and his is the same and the differance is in the hubs? so if I swapped my brakes on it the wms should be correct??

I am trying to avoid buying new gears, install kit and a new carrier.

getting a 4.56 axle means I can use the money saved for a detroit locker:D

its lae, my grammer is going to hell..goodnight

ok still thinking..

a quick price check shows

-139 master kit
-229 sup. gears
-197 for the carrier
-437 detroit locker

that 1000 bucks..

or 200.00 for an already geared axle, through on my hubs and disk brakes and used the money saved to buy the locker..

so I would be at 650.00 instead and I could put the drums on my axle and sell it and make back a couple hundred.

what hubs/brakes would you put back in your '07,..i think the 07 rear has drum brakes in the hat of the rear rotor for the e-brake...i wondered about this swap for the e-brake

when the 14ff has pop off drums or disk the hubs/spindles are diffrent. thay wont swap to the older axles. the spindles are wider in the bearing seat area as to the newer narrow stuff.

pm me if you need a open 14ff carrier. i got one.

I am working on a similar project old 14 bolt housing with new 14 bolt brakes. Dual piston rear calipers with drum in hat parking brake. Not a straight forward swap but with some creative machining it should work.

well mine is disk already, bummer on the spindles, ill tear them both down and go from there. I wanted to use my hubs to keep the wms the same. I have no interest in machining anything though. If I have to I will do weld on caliper brakets but that wont solve the wms problem :(

hmm, I wonder if my 12 bolt newer bubs will work on a dana 70 rear.. or would I run intot he same spindle issue I assume.

damn so much for being simple!

Dumbass the 14 bolt is an AAM axle <------ GM hasn't owned their axle division since ifs 2 door Blazers .

Want to start a car company and run a 10 bolt truck rear , a 14 bolt truck rear , whatever , AAM sells it to you

the 14 bolt, still called a 14 bolt like it has been for 30 plus years is what I have..

the all new 11.5 AAM axle is what i dont have..

why is that not clear..

If I bought the thick gears and stuck witht he gove lock I could use the money I would have used for a detroit and carrier to put a locker in the dana 60 front the truck has.. a 4.10 carrier is easy to find so I could always upgrade the gove lock to a detroit when it decided to retire. hmm

I didn't say you had that , I was JUST linking you to a pdf file of the breakdowns for ALL the axles , so you could compare things <------- this is a good thing to have

Save it to your hardrive for future reference

I did say you had an AAM axle , regardless of ring gear size

THe 10.5 inch ring gear 14 bolt you have is a AAM axle.

I didn't think that the AAM 14bolt was the same as the old corporate 14bolt.

I don't think the parts interchange.
