I got a chance to pickup some 1.75 DOM along with some 1.75 mild steel, is it or would it be ok or even safe to use the mild steel along with the DOM in a cage setup? If so where on the cage would it be good for.

I would just use the DOM in high stress area's like the main hoops and the regular for braces.

I assume it's HREW, right?

DOM refers only to a manufacturing method (Drawn Over Mandrel), not a specific alloy. Common DOM is usually still mild steel - it just doesn't have a seam like HREW.

Not a problem at all, even though all bars in a cage can be subjected to crazy forces, use the DOM where you need a bend, use the HREW where you don't. Unless its going to be a high stress area. I have used 2" HREW, 1.5 DOM and 1.75 HREW and DOM in the same cage before

90% of my cage is DOM but there is like 15' of HREW that I had laying around and used on inner supports that won't be getting any rock rash.
