i've got my trusty old Uniden PC66XL, and i'd like to look into playing with it a little bit. just looking to get a little more range out of it, maybe some of those nifty neato noise toys too. anybody know where i can get info to do this stuff myself?

is this really a good platform to start building a good radio from? or should i look into something a little newer?

Depends on what you want too be able too do with your radio. I personally prefer too buy a 10 meter "Export" radio and convert it for 11 meter. Has all the "extra channels", sideband,...ect. I like the built in 6 digit freq counter. I recently sold my President Lincoln. It did everything I needed in a radio. The 10 meter "export" radios are illegal, but there are thousands of them out there converted for 11 meter (CB) that people have been running for years.
