Modding a flowmaster...

Hey guys, this might be a stupid question however i need a dual in dual out muffler.. I currently have a flow master 40 single in single out. If i cut and add an inlet and outlet by just hole sawing and adding tube will it work?? I am unfamilar with the chambers inside of it. So anyone ever do this? Thanks guys!

wouldnt work. baffles are in line with inlet/outlet, you would ruin the muffler. and the work to cut and weld is

correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure they dont make a double in double out for a reason.

The baffles are the same regardless if it is a dual in/out, or single, all they do is change the neck location.The innards are all the same in each specific series. The 40 series itself they don't make a dual in/out, but the super 40 they do, also the super 50 they do. Truthfully, you could buy a flowmaster knock off muffler, which is modeled after the original 40 series, and have a dual in/out for not much money, and it'd be new.

Being dual in/out has many benefits, and sounds much cleaner, than a true dual system would without an x-pipe or balance tube

Flo Pro Super V comes in dual in dual out. I have some single in/outs on my truck and they are the same internal design as the 40 series. They are solid built and I love how mine sound. Also the flo pros are reasonably priced.

so i guess i should clarify i basically want to make it dual in and just have the single out, i dont care if its dual out. I need to make this exhaust tight and compact becuase i clocked my tcase and have a skid plate and traction bar. Sooo could i just put an additional inlet on?

I don't know for sure, but that seems like it would seriously limit air flow. Too much resistance shoving two exhaust lines into one pipe. Unless the output is like a 4" pipe.

No different than a y pipe right before the muffler.

you can get a muffler for like 40 bucks, do that or do a y pipe right before the muffler.

i dont see it being ghetto if u can order a "dual in" muffler from flowmaster.if the internals r exactly the same for single in and dual in. then its just you welding an inlet instead of flowmaster doing it for u. unless im missing something

Its not thaaatttt ghetto. Just use a header collector and it will look factory! And be made the exact same as flowmaster would do. I honestly see nothing wrong with it.

i told him the samething,to use a header flange. but hes in the driveway right now welding his exhaust together. he made a y pipe just before the muffler.
