I have Jimmy k5 model 1988 TBI with 700r4 trans and 3.08 ratio.

I will rebuilt the engine and want to modify it for more power and daily driver.

I will do boring .30 for the piston.

What part do you advice my to do to get at god performance for the street and sand?

Could u help to list the parts are needed for me?

Id look into Edelbrock TBI Cam and Intake while your rebuilding it (part# 3702, 3704). Also a double timing chain is a good idea too. Just did my 89 blazer and love the difference. Other things that will help you is a free flowing exhaust starting from the motor going all the way back so a set of headers and some dual exhaust to help it pump more air. Also on the intake side a K&N drop in air filter is a nice touch.

There is one piston oil leak on it (chamber leak) I run on full tank 25 gallon around 237 mile only> It consume allot of fuel. Is there problems? I will check computer to day to see if there is some sensors does not work.
Do you advice me to keep the stock y -pipe or make it x pipe with Dynomax muffler? And chip?

That's about 10mpg which isn't the worst thing I've ever heard.

Something you didn't mention was if it was lifted and if so what size tires do you run? You said you had 3.08's so if you have anything more than stock height tires (and even then) I'm with four_by_ken. Gears are going to give you the best bang for your buck.
I remember going from 3.08's to 4.10's and it was a HUGE difference.

I had 3.08's in one of my Blazers when I first bought it and it couldn't pull the skin off custard....I vote gears, life is crap with 3.08's.

Its lift only at back 2'' and tire size 275/80/15 its like around 32.32 in width 10.82 in

In that case you are about in the same position I am in with Krusty. 3.08's with 33's equals almost no power at all, couple that with the 700r4 and your mileage will be bad because you are running the trans at very low RPM's. With the 3 speed trans in Krusty I get about 2300 RPMs at 70 MPH, which allows me to get about 14 MPG on a carb'd 350, you should be able to get much better. I am with others here, look at 3.73 gearing for the axles for the best perfomance upgrade.

Saad,

the first thing you should do is change the gears to 3.73 or 4.10 ( 4.10 since you have 700r4 with overdrive )
it will make a really BIG change in performance even with the stock motor

you can buy new ring & pinion gears from ( Al-Zahrani ) in Dammam for around 750-800 SR a set

regarding the motor,
how is your budget ?
you can buy a complete LSx 6.0 motor with ECU and wiring for around 8000 SR

if you plan to keep you motor and rebuild it
make sure it is a 350 and not a 305

newb question:
i dont know what ratio i have in my gear set, since i bought the pretty well used.

can i just jack up the rear end, turn the drive shaft, and count the rotations on the wheel?

~3 turns on the driveshaft and 1 turn on the wheel would be 3.08 right?

Make a mark with white chalk or crayon on the drive shaft, then on the wheels also. then turn the drive shaft slowly, counting rotations.
OR, you could just look at the markings on the axle housing which should tell you what you've got.:D

assuming it hasnt been changed, right?
all this 4x4 stuff is new to me.. im used to my late model RWD toy (that now has a spun rod bearing)

this truck is stock except for tires/lift as far as i can tell.
the speedo reads fast. but its got 35's on it, so im assuming its still stock geared.

ill take a glance at the rear end in a little bit, and jack it up tonight if i have to,

thanks :)

For street performance (mine is an 86 so I'm carbed) I'm running a holly avenger 670, headers (hooker i think?), twin 2,1/4" exhaust, vortec heads, after market intake manifold, and some lumpy cams (cant remember degrees offhand) its sitting at 10.25:1 compression and hauls pretty good, I'm eventually going to look into my gearing but for now its a solid performer both on and off road sitting at 366hp and 400lb-ft... fuel mileage however, is a thing of the past.:D

Are you from saudia arabia also ? Ever come over to Bahrain ?

My mods will be like these, help me to find the right size….
Cam, I want DD cam, which size should buy?
3.42 ratio because I use highway always
Edelbroke intake and TB spacer
Headers, do I keep the y 3'' – pipe or make it x – pipe 2.5''?
Jet chip
Rebuilt the engine bore .030.
Do I need to change the fuel pump?
Electric fan Alternative of mechanical fan

For a cam I run the Edelbrock TBI cam and love it so far and it goes nicely with there intake as well.
3.42's are very highway minded stock but if your tires are bigger than stock then you might run into issues depending on the terrain that your traveling hilly or flat land. Also something that I would recommend would be a transmission temp gauge so you can see how its doing.
The TBI spacers are ok I've ran one for a few years and felt a difference but you need to make sure that your t.v. cable for your transmission is properly adjuster after the install.
Headers are a good thing id go with a set of long tube ones and get ceramic coated if you can afford it well worth it.
The Jet Chip wouldn't really help you out to much probably cause more issues than its worth.
Electric fans would free up some power and theirs a few threads here in the Garage too. Usually wind star fans from the ford vans with a/c

buying and shipping these parts to Saudi Arabia is going to cost too much
contact summit racing for example and ask them about headers shipping to your address and you will know what I mean :doah:

it will be much better if you swap to 5.3, 5.7 or 6.0 LSx variant
keep them bone stock and they will out perform the 350 TBI sbc

Ahmed,

Seriously if you are going through the trouble of swapping gears and you have an overdrive get 4.10s... My brother has an '04 Ram 1500 with Hemi, 3.55 gears and a Hemi... It stilll only gets about 14 mpg on the freeway with the 3.55s I think that it might get better with 4.10s and the overdrive. 3.08s to 3.42s will be hardly noticeable.

dont mean to hijack or anything but i drive mainly town driving with some highway/interstate. Hilly on the highway/interstates. Ive got 31s a 305/700R4 combo and the sticker in the glove box says 3.42 ratios is that a good setup? It always has to kick out of overdrive on some hills and just looses speed on them.
