Mom and Dads Suburban

Getting the Suburban back on the road.
Just what I need is something else to work on. The plan is to be able to take it out this coming spring for a trail shake down. Also hoping my kids can drive it here and there to school before they graduate in the spring.

Since @Raggedy_Ann got his Savalanche we’ve been excited to get these two out on the trails and do some camping. Not worried so much about looks as we are dependability. At some point my dad does want to finish the body and paint. I’m just looking to get it all gone through make it road worthy, complete and safe so we can have fun but hopefully not beat it up. Dads 72 now so would like to make some new memories in it.

12 bolt covers are hard to find. Where did those come from?

I need a suburban bad. Looking good!

The original plan was to take this to Sand Hollow and Blazer Bash last year but work got in the way and I didn’t have time to finish it. The next plan was to take it for a few shake down runs in the fall and over the winter, that didn’t happen either. Work is too busy for me to have time to do anything but work. I did get a few things done before winter. I got the grill installed, the winch is finally mounted (I’ve had it on and off a few times) it has synthetic rope now, cut the front and rear of the front fenders for tire clearance and approach angle, got the rear doors all together and the TBI swap is almost done. Now that the weather is warming up and it’s light later I’m hoping to make some progress. I was able to work on it the last two days. Hoping to make Sand Hollow and Blazer Bash happen this year.

Finally got a little time to work on the suburban today. Been remodeling one of our bathrooms and finished it last weekend. I was hoping to work on it yesterday but it rained all day. Got the lock cylinder swapped in the back door and the door back together. When I switched from a tailgate to barn doors the door didn’t come with a key and I wanted matching locks.
Also got the new salvage yard windshield installed. The windshield frame was actually in real good shape, no rust. Finished right as it started to rain.

Dropped the Suburban off at a buddy’s
last week to have a few things done.

First was to fill a bunch of holes in the roof- somebody at some point decided to use chrome plastic molding with two sided tape for drip molding over the four side doors. They also drilled holes and riveted them on. The moldings have been long gone and I’ve been wanting to fill the holes. I figured it was much faster to just have him do it for me, he Tig welded them so no sparks.

The second was to mount the ECM for the TBI. He mounted it up under the dash above the glovebox. I couldn’t come up with a way that made me happy so that was the whole reason for taking it over to him.

The third was to mount the OBD port. I also couldn’t figure a good way to mount it. He was able use the screws that mount the ash tray.
