I have a 73 3/4 ton D44 external hub front axle under my current project truck. The PO messed up the spindle on it's last bearing service. I was wondering if a spindle from an 87 10 bolt would work in its place?

Sorry fellas for my memory lapse. Just let me know what will work.

it depends on the bearing size. with that early of a model axle its possible that its the small bearing.

i know for the big bearing spindles the inside diameter of the inner bearing is right around 2"

the small bearing is significantly smaller

IIRC, the external hub dictated that it had a big bearing so the spindles are the same.

also IIRC, the 3/4 ton got the big bearing no matter what.

thanks fellas. maybe someone will post up with a definite response. I was trying to save myself a heat stroke by not having to tear into the 10b if I didn't have to.

The 10 bolt will have the larger inside bearing. If your D44 has the larger bearing spindle then yes, your 10 bolt spindles will work. All of the small bearing axles I ever had had a flat top passenger knuckle, but they were only 1/2 ton units.

When I need a parts swapability reference I often go to www.autozone.com and look up the same part for both models and see if the part numbers match, in this case the inner bearing.
