Just looking for the best transmission filter I can get for my 3/4 ton GMC. It's a 2011 with 6 speed auto. I was planning on going with a GM stock replacement, but I figured I'd ask here first.

Can't go wrong with wix, but I'm sure a dealer a/c delco is just as good. I'm anxious to see what is recommended by the masses.

Same here. I've always been a fan of Wixx, but they don't list a trans filter on their website. (just fuel, air and oil) :dunno:

Some newer vehicles don't even have filters in them, just a micron screen, so I would honestly think with fluids and materials these days, just a regular service routine would be your best bet.

Get the GM replacement, keep the fluid cleaned and changed.

No one is going to recommend an external filter?

Don't know much about them...but if money was no object, i'd install an AUX remote filter, and do fluid changes and aux filter changes more regularly, w/o dropping the pan.

Toilet paper!!

Anybody remember those?

Stay with dealer filters, most of the filters I've been getting from the part stores are made in China. No way I'm going to trust a Chinese POS on a trans that I care about.

I would suggest the dealer if you do not have a good transmission parts supplier in your area that carries the "Sealed Power" line of filters. There are actually very few filters still manufactured here, even by OE suppliers. You won't need an external filter, the 6L90E has plenty of filter area to trap normal particulate.

Well, I picked up a filter from the dealer. (Its made in Mexico, btw) $41 out the door since I picked it up in uniform.

I didn't get here earlier but our transmission guy for our race car is Randy Rod with Jimmys 4x4 in Cortez. He recently started installing a Brass? filter in all the transmissions he builds.

Reason being they filter as good as anything else and they handle heat well. We spiked our transmission to 260+:doah: during the KOH race by accident and it didn't flinch. We did have Amsoil fluid which is probably why it's fine but I know Randy mentioned the normal plastic housing filters getting soft and failing about 250.

Just food for thought
