Moog Super Strength U-joints

I can't find the article anymore that tested greasables as being about 5-7% weaker than solid ujts. If you find it, please link it.
That said, I've run Spicer greasables for 25yrs on every ujt on my K30 with 454/39.5" TSL. I see lots of mud/water, never broke anything. They last a long time but still need to be replaced every several years. I may try the 'sealed for life' Spicers next time.
 
Oh man, I just found out Spicers are available at the NAPA store next door to where I work. I had asked a couple years ago and they didn't carry them.

I just order on Amazon and pay the 3 bucks to have them next day
 
We've been running the Neapco Brute Force u-joints for several years in both my K5 and my buddy's F-150 with no issues other than one cap spit out on a D44 shaft in the Ford that wrecked the shafts. That was due to factory retainer failure though. I have Spicer in my alloy front shafts now but any other joints I've replaced have been the Brute Force which are not greaseable. I use the Marine Green Grease you get at parts stores for everything, even the wheel bearings on the K5.
 
It took me 20 minutes to get Spicers at NAPA because their database doesn't link them to vehicles (just the other brand U-joints) and they don't have Spicers directly. It looks like any NAPA get get them in, even if they aren't in stock, but some stores probably have them and just don't realize it.

For example, I asked for a 5-153X or 5-13101X joint and they can only get this: https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p/TWR5153X/TWR5153X_0208481809. It has a TWD part number, but comes in a Spicer box with spicer stamped on cross and caps.

When I asked for 5-760X, they show TWD: https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p/TWR5760X/TWR5760X_0208658218, but it is in fact the good stuff.

All of the off-brand joints had different part numbers, but everything with the same base # as Spicer was a Spicer. TWD is probably just their distributor.
 
If napa puts the spicer part number in with no spaces they will come up. And they do come up under certain vehicles.

This is something that I have bugged my local napa about for years (getting spicer joints), and apparently I am not the only one, because it is slowly getting easier to get them. Another thing I have bugged them about is the quality of diff bearing kits (skf stuff has been pretty poor quality) and am now starting to see koyo and Timken bearings in skf boxes.
 
With all the Chinese stuff coming in and our American parts going out of business, I've seen the quality go down and the food companies we are used to not being as easy to find anymore. Anything that is a high wear item or heavy use like bearings I try to buy American made. The Chinese counterpart cheap aftermarket stuff barely last half as long.
 
Now we have Spicer SVL joints to weed out. The part numbers are similar, but they come in a blue/white box saying "SVL" instead of the red/white box that says "Spicer". They are like 1/2 the price of Spicers and there seems to be no non-greasables available. I'm seeing some stories of people ordering real Spicers at a good price and getting SVLs.

Although they are described as "forged", but I think most U-joints are. I also like the phrase "stocked in the USA", with no mention of manufacturing.

The problem is that everyone stocking them is listing the real Spicer part numbers alongside them.
 
Yeah of course. The key is to make sure you can get the right parts.
 
If it's listed as the same part but isn't, I'd get my money refunded or exchanged for the spicer. They may work but sounds like it's just a cheap solution that may be weaker than the original Spicers but at a discount. I don't want to find out on the trail they are weaker than original just to save a few bucks.
