First thing is the picture. The case has this little hole in it. Looks like its suppose to be there but idk wtf it is. Does it go all the way through to the outside of the case? Should I plug it?

Second question is the seal on my front output. The spring is facing the outside. Its not suppose to be like that is it? Seems backwards no? If it is suppose to be like that then is the rear output also because it wasnt?

Thirdly is my question about play in the chain. The guy I bought this from said it had 10,000 miles about on it and probably like 20mins in 4wd when he would get stuck in the snow and pull out.

When the case is in 4wd it seems like theres alot of play between the front and rear output if you turn them against each other. I'm used to feeling for play and it being backlash on gears but I know this is a chain driven case. So the question is is this play alright? Its probably like an 1/8th turn on each yoke before you feel them butt against each other. Is that normal?

Well I snuck out of the office here for 5mins and check that little hole out. Doesnt go all the way through the case or anything. Perhaps its just some sort of dowel hole when they cast it. I'm gonna glob it with rtv just to be safe.

As far as the chain slack goes it would appear its a normal thing from what I've found on Mr.Google.

Cant see the pic as i am a lowly non-member, but id imagine the seals spring on the outside is to keep dust and debris out and the spring inside for keeping fluid in .

It will seal either way, the spring generally goes to the inside because it can be a little vulnerable I guess but if if were me I'd just leave it as it is.

b/s is called on this with atf fluid . as this case req atf fluid.

my th350 leaked atf in my 205 cause i installed the seal backwards.

spring is always to the oil/grease side.

Im not 100% sure about this, but i believe the NP208, and NP241 share the same front output seal. If that is in fact the case , i have an extra front output seal in my toolbox. I went and had a look at it, it has the dust lip but no spring facing outwards. Possibly the PO installed it backwards or possibly put the front output seal in the input seal bore and vice versa.

Well I figured out why it was installed backwards :D

Its a double lip seal. So I went and ordered two more double lips. A fresh one for the front and one for the back since the JB kit has a deep enough bore for it :D

That issue probably had nothing to do with ATF, probably when the seal was installed backwards it wasn't on the sealing surface of the output shaft any more.

The orientation of the seal itself doesn't matter if it's on a good sealing surface.
