After reading Desert Rats post about fuel issues, I have a few questions, on my 62, when I pulled my tank there was a long skinny plastic tube with a hole in it that was broke off of the sender, Im guessing it is the pickup tube, w/ no screen or anything. I have been looking and they are about $140 for sender and new tube. A mechanic guy says I could get a 1/2'' or so peice of tubing and hose clamp it on there. I would get the correct hose for this , but what about the hose clamps, anyone see any probs w/ this??

thanks for the help

GM uses that sort of stuff to mount the high pressure TPI pumps (TBI too IIRC) so I wouldn't worry about it.

The GM pieces I've seen were actually plastic, so they can't corrode from condensation, etc.
What I've seen of hose clamps, many of them have stainless bands, but plain steel screws.
