Hey Everyone,

I feel stupid for having another problem I can't figure out myself, but I need some more help.

I was driving home when all of a sudden the truck started dying, and sputtering plus bogging down. There was also what sounded like a knock coming from under the truck.
I managed to crawl home and check the truck, the knock is coming from my muffler which started knocking the body when the truck got rough.
I pulled the air cleaner off the carb and when I reved it up it was shooting smoke out of the front vent tube and it would pop, like a mini back fire.
I'm desperate to get this fixed guys, any help would be great.

I don't know the model number of the carb, it's a Holley with number 80555-1 with the numbers 3225 stamped just under the others.

I just consulted a book with holley pn's and it doesnt have any of those numbers listed which tells me that my book is out of date. When is the last time you replaced your fuel filter? Also there may be a secondary filter at the fuel inlet, if you have a decent primary filter this one is not needed. Any backfire is an indication of a problem depending where the bacfire is occuring. If it is comming out our carb then it is probably a timing issue. If it is comming out your exhaust then it is an exessive fuel issue. This is caused when unburnt fuel enters your exhaust and pressure and hot exhaust gasses ignite it. As I previously suggested you need to invest in a rebuild kit. The numbers that you provided us are what you will need to get the rebuild. Also a holley trick kit will provide you with springs, jets, squirters, and power valves of different sizes.

Thanks for the help, any other opinions or options would be greatly appreciated.
I found the PN for the carb that I have and Holley lists it as a 0-80555C, I'm still looking but I haven't found a rebuild kit for it yet. I did however find a "trick kit" for Holley double pumpers and vacuum secondaries, it didn't say wether it would work on my carb or not though.
I ordered the Holley book you said you had in your other posts but it won't be here until Monday and I need to the truck this weekend to go pick up a Camaro for my girl friend.
I'm totally lost on this carburetor stuff and I feel like starting anew with an Edelbrock to see where it gets me but I really can't afford it right now.

The trick kit should be good it does contain all the gasketts for the rebuild but like i said it contains alot more tuning parts.

Ok, thanks for the help, I'm sorry if this has became repiticious, I'm just trying to wrap my head around this whole deal.
I'll be picking up the trick kit and trying to rebuild the carburetor myself, I suppose I'll do a post on it with pictures so if anyone else needs my information.
