More diesel discussion.

Those goofy looking dodge sprinter delivery vans have 5 cylinder Mercedes in them if I'm not mistaken.....They are built by Mercedes...

maybe a source for parts or transmission choices.....

just throwing this out there.....carry on..

Yeah but those are computerized and most likely out of his budget for this project they are impressive though!

i wonder what kind of mileage a full size truck would get. the 5 cylinder must not have any problem pushing around the sprinter

Ugh well seeing as how the newer sprinter version is direct injection I can only imagine it moves decently.

The motor I'm going to use for the s10 is definitely not enough for a full size. The 6 cylinder 603 might be good for a shortbed or blazer.

That being said the 603 and 617s are popular swaps for unimogs to convert to diesel but theyve got some serious gearing.

Picked up an OM617 like planned. 195k from a hit car. Came with everything and a trans. Paid $400 and hoping to make back some on the trans.

It begins :D :chainsaw:

Take lots of pics!!!

I'm gonna no worries. The thing is heavy as all hell so I picked some chain up tonight to hook up a chain hoist to the rafter in my garage. I'm gonna get the thing hanging tomorrow, unbolt the flywheel and the bell/block adapter and strip off the outside what I know I dont need like the ac dryer, the intake, and the accessories. Then I'll get it bolted back up to the engine stand, take some pics of how the stock linkage is setup and start tear down.

Stage one of the motor is going to be a freshen up. Glaze break the cylinders with a fresh hone, new rings, new bearings, new seals and gaskets.

Performance wise at the first step of installation it will get an intercooler to keep EGTs down, 15psi of boost, EGR delete and whats know as a rack valve delete to boost fuel a little.

After that once everything is installed and road worthy I'm gonna start looking into an aftermarket lift pump and a t3/t4 turbo. With the pump and turbo the motor should be putting out a very respectable 250hp and 275 ftlbs of torque with only around 20psi.
