More issues with \"new\" truck... Help please

2 weeks after I got my wheel bearing/hub problem fixed. At least it made it through deer season.
Anyway, I got home today and lifted hood to inspect another bad sound. The fan had FALLEN OFF of its spindle! Anyone else ever had this happen?? It is banged up, too, but I don't know if that's a result of it coming loose or a cause of it coming loose. How hard it it to remove the shroud, this one looks like it's stapled together <img src="http://coloradok5.com/forums/images/icons/frown.gif">...
It seems on my K5 that somehting rubber holds the fan on its spindle, but it's dark so I can''t really tell.
Fortunately I can still drive the ol' Blazer to school tomorrow <img src="http://coloradok5.com/forums/images/icons/wink.gif"> and then have the long weekend to think on this one.

if the water pump shaft didn't come apart and let the fan and pulley come off, you probably have a clutch type fan that the clutch hub failed. usually the clutch hub is available separately but if your fan is banged up don't use it . it can fly apart later, or if the blades are bent, they will be out of balance and this can ruin your water pump bearings. it may be cheaper to buy a flex fan and a spacer and eliminate the clutch fan. those shrouds are usually stapled in the middle, I usually pull the staples out and bolt it back together, it saves having to remove the bottom half, it's usually a pain to remove it in one piece without taking the fan off.

yeah pretty much Silverado nailed it here. Hard to say what happened with out seeing it. Personally most of the stuff is cheap so I would just get a new water pump and clutch. If you fan is banged up call around for a junkyard unit or go the flex route if you like. You also might want to check for further damage from the fan... check out the radiator hoses, radiator etc.

OK, thanks guys, I should be able to work on it thisa weekend. I looked at my blazer last night and the shroud was bolted together, so I'll have to do that now. What kind of advantages to a flex fan give me? That might be the way to go if it's not too much more. I'll check it out. Thanks again, every one.
