ive got this problem with my power steering belt flipping over. it does it everytime i go offroad or rev the engine up really high.

my pulley is perfectly in line with the crank pulley and its spinning true.

the only thing i can think of is that it just isnt getting tight enough so where is the proper pry point to get my belt tight enough.

when i do tighten the belt its very taut and has the 1/2 inch deflection thing or whatever. then after a trip on the highway it will work its way to flipped over. today on the highway it jumped off the pulley!
i put it back on real tight and by the way home it was already loose and flipped.
i tightened the **** out of my bolts too! its the second Gates belt so whatever that tells you.

short of replacing the belt anyone got any ideas cause im tapped. :doah:

Thoughts in no particular order:

The reservoir is NOT the proper pry point. Be VERY careful not to damage the can on the PS pump. Don't ask. :(

Check the pulley surfaces for imperfections, rough spots, something?

Also, we assume the belt is clean and dry. Grease or PS fluid, for example, does bad things to rubber and will make belts dance :(

Check the bolts on the brackets to the pump ... maybe the pump is loose?

Goose the throttle while you're under the hood, and watch the pump; maybe it's flexing at WOT?

pump is tight, nuts are tight, pulley is clean and smooth
i ran out of daylight so ill get after it tomorrow, until then, anyone got another idea?

I had an issue with a belt operated accessory at one point. Belt wouldn't stay tight. Every once in a while it spit the belt out.

PO had put in bolts with a shank and they were bottoming out. Seemed tight but actually was just starting to squeeze. It seemed good under the hood but once throttle was applied it pulled loose.

You may have the wrong V shaped belt. See what PN comes up when you go by year make model instead of the PN for the belt you have. I don't go by that 1/2" deflection thing. I tighten the piss outta my PS pump belt.

Do you have aftermarket pulleys? Maybe they are a different V then the pump pulley.

You sure the pulley shaft is straight. On mine I need to replace the power steering pump. It works but the shaft is obviously bent. I cna turn it by hand and see the belt get tight then loose tight then loose. When the car is running its hard to see. Try rotating the pulley and checking you belt tension as it goes around.
