My truck is ball less right now.

MY truck was idling really high before, so much that it would drive about 15mph with out touching the gas.

Me and a buddy tryed to adjust the timing but the computer seemed to be driving up the timing, it was MASSIVELY advanced.

We dicked with it, in the end from donor trucks installed a new coil, module, egr solenoid, plugs/wires, cap/rotor.

Seemed to be running fine, I started getting code 44 being thrown(low TPS voltage), and the truck would seem to have trouble maintaining speed.

I took the tps off my parts truck, and both screws snapped, I got paranoid and soaked my truck with liquid wrench for two weeks or so, before I tryed to take mine off,(really did not want to snap them) well they came off like butter, replaced the TPS with my parts truck one, and nothing has changed, It seems to be going down hill.

when cold truck lumbers wont get up to speed, when it warms up a bit it throws code 44, and I have to feather the gas, to find a spot where the motor will rev, top speed is about 50-55MPH and I have to feather the gas to find a "sweet spot" and it I let off I lose it and slow right down.

It seems to me that the timing is not advancing at all, as it bogs right down when I hit the gas more then the first 1/8th of travel.

A friend said to use dielectric grease on the temp sensor, said it it had bad contact it would screw the TPS up, i had already and it made no noticeable change.

any help would be great, hills are out right now, I was going about 10mph up a 18% grade this morning at best!

oh 89 4x suburban 5.7

IIRC there is a connector you need to jump, prior to making any adjustments. If you don't, the computer tries to compensate for what you are doing to it.

yeah there is a disconnect that sticks out of the loom near the MC, we did that, seems to have gotten the Rpms down, but now (weeks later) it runs like sh!t.

EFI runs lots of advance at idle, 20+ IIRC.

You need to get a scanner on it, check out the TPS voltage and temp sensor readings. Autozone is supposed to let you do this for free.

If you are close to me, I have no problem using my autoxray on your truck.

If you are talking about your 87 burb:
Code 44 is not TPS.
Code 44 is lean exhaust.
All your descriptions say to me NO Fuel!
How is your Fuel filter? have you changed it in the last year?
What is your fuel pressure? Your pump may be going out.
Check all vaccum lines connections and TB base gasket may be the problem with high idle.\
Check the spray pattern on the injectors. Should be conical in shape and not dripping out.

this is an 89 burb, the online check I have as well as my buddys little book, that comes with the little "scanners"(glorified paper clip) said TPS.

I had the pump out a little while ago ran good, I admit the filter was on my to do list, I guess I will be bumping that one up on the list.

Code 44- This code will be set whenever the ecm perceives a lean exhaust condition. The main causes for this is a grounded O2 sensor, low fuel pressure, restricted injectors, contaminated fuel, exhaust leaks or bad air switching valve. The condition met to set the code is a low O2output voltage (less than 0.2V)around a minute with the ecm is closed loop.

These are TPS codes
Code 21- When the ecm sees the tps voltage high. Usually set when the tps signal (blue wire) is above 2.5V, while the ecm sees an idle speed less than 1500 rpm. These conditions must be met for a specific time, usually 3-5 seconds. This code can also be set when the tps is defective, when the black wire from the connector is open, or the blue sensor wire is shorted against the gray (5V) wire. Check all connections carefully.

Code 22- This code is when the ecm sees the tps voltage low. This happens when the ecm thinks that contact with the tps is lost. Look for a opened or grounded blue or gray wire.

Here is a link to the exact code chart you should use:http:http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/89-90_57k.shtml

This is a good page to read it is for TPI but it is pretty much the same info/trouble code for TBI :http://www.chevythunder.com/fuel injection troubleshooting pg a.htm#44

OK this is making WAY more sense now, his crappy little book, is wrong then or he was reading from the wrong years or something.

ok got the filter, hopefully it will come out ok, and fix the problem.

thanks brothers

Filter did a lot of help!, Had I not been thinking sensors and timing I would have done the filter already.

there is a bit of a todo list on the truck.

made a big difference, right away truck can haul some ass no problem now, but just coming home from a buddys going about 50/55 it threw 44 again, but seems to be running good. Guess I still have some other things to check out.
