Hey there guys! I'm new here, which you could probably guess. >_< But anyways, I saw this thread idea on another forum, and couldn't find one here. It's a pretty good way to show off your trucks, and help out the new guys wanting to make their trucks better. It's pretty self explanatory, you just post some of your favorite upgrades/modifications that you would never go back from, or that has done you alot of good, and some of your "woops" moments, and upgrades/modifications, you wish you wouldn't have done, were more trouble than it was worth, or that ended up biting you in the a$$. Pics are always a plus! Have fun!

Most favorite upgrade - my softopper. I am amazed how much more visibility I have when wheeling as compared to the old hardtop. That and 1 tons.

Least favorite upgrade - Rear winch receiver hitch carrier. Mostly because I never use the stupid thing and it kills my rear departure angle.

Any pics of the softopper? When I get mine, I'm probably gonna do the same.

Favorite so far:

  • Lifting via Tuff Country front springs and ORD shackle-flip in the back, with ORD grease-able bushings. Articulation per $ and general ride is great.
  • Just sticking with the ORD program in general. Awesome customer service, and just, well, no problems for Chevy newb when the project started.
  • Cobra 29 with P/A, so I can communicate and heckle.
  • Resisting the urge for a "sound system" and just running rear speakers with 3" Kappa's under the dash. Sounds respectable, and saves room and BS.
  • Rigging up .30 cal ammo cans on top of the rear wheel wells. Storage for possibles, but the bed is open, and I can still put the back seat in pretty quickly. Shovel(s) and fire extinguisher mounted similarly.
  • Replacing my front body mounts (and radiator support) after neglecting to do so. Passenger-side was super loose, and all the flex cracked the bejeebus outta the rad support. It was most impressively cracked in any number of spots.
  • Nixing the factory oil cooler and A/C system, adding tranny cooler. Oil cooler blew in most inopportune circumstances, and direct flow to radiator = rock steady temp gauge.
  • Trimming the fangs off the front quarter-panels. Waited way to long to do that, even after adding 1" zero-rates.
  • Taking the time to go through misc. stuff "under the hood". Inspect/redo wiring, replace hoses and sensors, rebuild TBI pods, etc.
  • Get my good buddy to buy a 'Burb of same vintage.
Most unnecessary so far (at least for me):

  • Swaybar disconnects. Still on the vehicle, but I haven't hooked 'em up for over a year.
Etc:

  • Went with those Autozone 4" lift shocks just to keep things moving forward on uber-low budget. Not knocking them at all, for what they are, but think the fronts are starting to go. Have 2+ years on them, so not complaining. Just throwing it out there.

FAVORITE - 12" travel, Bilstein 5100 series shocks and 5100 series Steering Stabilizer.(F350)

LEAST FAVORITE - It's a tie....

Either,
The 300lb.. 1/4" thick rear bumper.... (.120 wall woulda been great.)

Or,
My Lock-Wrong Locker, in my front axle..... Little bastage.
:doah:

Worst mod: front 52" springs. Too squishy, never rode right, uneven, too soft.

most favorite-does it count if all the parts are still sitting in my shed waiting on me to put them on? Though it hasnt happened I know that my ls engine swap will be my favorite. Improved driveability and fuel mileage on my favorite vehicle, I know Im gonna love it.

least favorite- really cant think of any mods that I just dont care for. Maybe my hackjob wiring "repairs" and add ons that Im gonna have to fix sooner or later:doah:.

Favorite would be realizing leaf springs wouldn't do what I wanted. Throwing them away.

Least would be designing around the back seats. Should have never put them in.

Well I'm definitely gonna be putting a hardcore sound system. I'm not gonna be doing any hardcore offroading. Plus I'm 18 so I HAVE to be loud and obnoxious. ;D but so far my definite mods that I'm gonna do are a soft top, for every season except winter, some slightly bigger tires and maybe a small lift. Depending on what year I get, I'll probably either do an mpfi conversion or a motor swap, just depending on how much time and money I decide to put in. And a rear bumper with a swing out tire mount. Oh! And definitely gonna linex the back, to make it easier to clean when I use it for hunting, go mudding with the top off, etc. other than that, just little stuff like exhaust and ignition upgrades. Stuff like that. I got a plan!

Best:
BBC 454
Detroit in rear
39.5" Swampers
Trans cooler with temp gauge

Worst:
Jacobs ignition (no gain noticed, factory HEI was fine and should have spent money elsewhere)

I think good transfer case gearing was my favorite upgrade, that was a complete night and day difference. I went from a totally marginal setup, slipping clutch, going too fast, out of control, to having the right gear no matter what. HUGE difference.

Crossover steering was a huge one too, the stock steering worked ok on the street but had no control offroad. Bad enough that I remember having to plan my line 4 obstacles ahead because I couldn't steer the way I needed to. Crossover fixed all that, steer where you want whenever you want.

As far as worst mods for me, I didn't love my 52's in the front. I bashed the crap out of the springs/hangers (even on 42's), I constantly fought axle wrap problems and went through springs every couple trips. A link suspension was the solution, but I'm not so sure that a less flexy suspension that could actually put the power down and didn't kill approach angle wasn't the easy ticket.

How about some daily driver guys? What're your favorites for every day driving?

See my original post. And it is a daily driver.

I daily drove my Blazer a ton.

There isn't a ton to make it better than stock, the steering box area on the frame is a big issue for all of them. We sell tons of 2WD steering box braces, even street driven trucks have that issue.

From there, a lot of the necessary "upgrades" depend on how high the truck is lifted.

I've done a lot of upgrades on this truck over my last but some mods that really stand out are crossover + XJ steering shaft + both steering box braces. These mods made a TON of difference in tightening up my steering.

I daily drive mine. One of the best mods for DD was the 2004 Silverado seats. Also, my custom tailgate for ease of access. Oh, and 5100 series Bilsteins. So many mods that help with DDing but those are my favs that relate to daily driving.

Worst: I cant think of anything ive done to my rig that I regret.

Damn that's crazy... That also reminded me about getting some rooftop lights too!!
