My favorite mod so far haha

I daily drive my Sub and I must say it was nicer (not by much) the way it was when I bought it from the 80 year old original owner (completely stock), but where's the fun in that.

Best Mod(s) Diesel with our without Turbo so much better then gassers. good shocks, 56" springs in front, still lots of flex but none of the wobblys and spring wrap issues I had with 52"

Worst mod(s), Ditching HVAC, Ditching inner fenders, big stereos, Other then q-jet carbs .

Best mod: replacing rusted rear panels, tail gate, and floor with a chopped short bed box for $100

Worst Mod: Canvas cover dash after i stripped off the vinyl and foam. Glue's not holding up and the canvas is separating from the metal dash. Darned Keystone Light engineering.

That's something that I'm also considering doing. There's an old burb at my gmas with a diesel, and I'm considering swapping that in there when I get mine, a slapping a banks turbo on there eventually. Especially if I end up with one with the 305. I figure it's just a little harder to swap the diesel in than a 350, so I might as well. Anything I should upgrade on it for reliability if I do? I read that they're pretty bulletproof except for a few things that I can't recall right now. >.<

Best mod roller cam 454 with TBI

Worst mod Not using the 4L80E I had and going the TH400 route instead. With 5.13s on the highway, its revved up pretty good at 60 and the OD of the 80E would be great.

What's different about your tailgate? Any pics?

Sits on a 2000# spindle (load capacity) and latches shut with a 2000# latch (resistance)

I had a p/u tail gate and a Blazen Offroad rear bumper/tire carrier. Since I drive my K5 nearly everyday, the functionality of un-latching the B/O bumper/tire carrier then drop the tail gate was not conducive to daily use so I decided to make my own rear gate/tire carrier. Works out a lot better for daily access.

Best: Tons, Crossover, HydroAssist, amp and wakeboard speakers

Worst: Swapping in a 241 when I broke my 208 instead of building the doubler sitting in the garage corner.

Best: Soft topper, modern stereo and good speakers, quiet street tires.

Worst: None, my truck is stock.

That looks awesome. I'm struggling with what to do with my tailgate/tire. Right now my tire is inside. I used to have a mega heavy rear bumper with swing outs. When installed, the frame ends were trimmed to get it close to the body. As a result, the tailgate spring was lost so the tailgate weighs a ton (I guess a lot of custom rear bumpers must be that way).

Anyway, impressive setup. Do you have pics with it open?

thats pretty sick. The clear taillamps are road legal??

yours is alot like how i want to do mine. only differences are im gonna get a bumper with a tire mount, and put some 18" dd subs on each side in front of the wheel wells, linex the whole back, and get gnarlier tires.

The weight capacity of the spindle means almost nothing for this application. The real question is how it was welded to the bumper and whether or not that will prevent stress fractures from starting. Because coincidentally my worst mod was dumping my whole tire carrier while driving down the street....
