motherf-in junk!

I got 2 of em.A 99 and a 01.The 99 is starting to use coolant so will need head gaskets eventualy.Stop leaked it for now because I have too many projects going right now.The 01 I got out of a local paper a few years ago for $200 because it had a blown head gasket and a smashed rt frt fender.Total of a grand into that one and its a good car. They both have an engin rattle when cold from the pistons. The only fix is to replace the pistons with the same exact ones that have a teflon coating on the skirts that will wear off again and make noise again. The noise goes away like a forged piston does when it worms up a little. If the $500 engin has fairly low miles Id replace the engin.30 mpg is better than what youl get with a c10 by far.

that junkyard engine has 132K on it, probably needs intake gaskets too.(I think they all needed intake gaskets even new on the showroom floor) I decided my best bet for now is the car from my sister. I know some highschool girl had my car before me and beat the **** out of it, and I havent been particularly nice either. As much as I dont want another one of these cars its my best option. My sisters car is pretty clean too which is a plus.

IMO and IME, bad oil pumps and skipped timing are nowhere near as common as people think.
I agree, of about 6 bad oil pumps I can remember, I don't think but one was actually a bad oil pump.
The rest were called bad because they quit pumping. But it was actually not their fault. Other things caused it. Sludge, wrung off shaft, (that one might have seized), intake falling off, things like that.

The jumped time part, is more common than you might think. It just depends on the make and year of the engine.
The ones with the nylon or plastic coated gears, will do it when they get worn. Or if the chain stretches too much.
