Motive Gears?

havent heard much bad at all about them.

and the box tag on a set i saw looked the same as a yukon set. ? if that ment anything.

you know those are for 4.10 - down carrier thats in your link. and why 4.56?

The PO who built my 10b front axle (4.56's & lockright) said the gears in mine are Motives and that he had never had a problem with Motive. He is a drag racer & rockcrawler. The axle has been in my truck for over 6 years with 35" & 37" tires. I crawl my truck pretty hard and haven't had a gear failure yet. I have had axles break but never the gears sofar.

ya i know it's for a 4.10 carrier and down, thats what i have and 4.56 because thats what i plan on going to so i dont ruin my freshly rebuilt 700r4

second question, as for an installation kit what kit would i need they are under suggested parts in the link above, the axle i have is a 14 bff out of a 73 suburban, that currently has 3.73 gears.

I'm pretty sure my current set of gears in my 12bolt/44 combo are motives. I'm not 100% positive but I think they are. And if they are they've held up to some punishment both off and on road and setup fairly problem free

This one. I've setup gears in ~20 diffs and the bearings looked pretty bad in half of them so I generally replace all the bearings no matter what.

You will need the shims too when you setup the gears.

what size tires?

most guys ask if 4.56 or 4.10 gears are good for there 700 combo. and we have said time and time with over drive as deep as you can go basicly.

we have covered this a lot in the garage.

just dont want to see you choose the wrong ones.

If you have 35's and 700R4 go deeper then 4.56 unless you highway drive the truck ALOT. 4.88's or 5.13's if you plan to go to larger tires.

I did 4.56's with my old 700R4 w/35's & 37's and I wish I had went 4.88's or 5.13's.

reality being my truck is driven on the highway 95% of the time, i just dont get off road as much as i would like, and on top of that there is not a whole lot of places to go that you dont have to travel 2+ hours around here.

my trucks on 35s they actually measure out to be like 34 though, and i dont plan on going bigger on this truck any time soon

wel motive gears for trucks are now made in india. along with genuine gear and others. i broke 2 sets in my ford powerstroke super duty i had. when they were made in italy i had no problems with them at all.

I did not know that (about Motive, if its true) and its pretty surprising to me.

Genuine gears are the worst you can buy by a long shot (and they are definitely made overseas)

the set i got says made in italy

then you got a good set.

the motives being made in india seem better than the genuine crap wheel parts sells, but like i said i still broke 2 sets of them along with the genuines that were in the truck when i bought it.

I've been running 4.88's in my truck with 35's and a 700R4. I'm glad I went with the 4.88 gears and it still cruises at 70 mph with reasonable RPM's. I'm in the process of swapping an isuzu turbo diesel thogh so I'll be running 3.73's. I plan on using motive gears (my local installer sells them & likes them a lot).
