when my motor is cold if you get on it, it feels sluggish and it will make a loud popping noise. Almost like a backfire but its not. What could this be? Timing?

its a 350/th400

thnx

Wish I knew. I thought it was incomplete combustion because it's cold, and it makes sense on the 289 in my car that the problem occurs in. With a 488 lift cam, I thought it was dumping too much gas for it to burn. It would go away after the car got warm. But it's gotten worse lately, doing it whether it's warm or cold, so I don't think that's it.

does yours sound like...your accelerating(insert exhaust sound) but feels sluggish. followed shortly by a loud pop (insert swearing and jump in seat)?

*Hijack on* mine's not, it's a few quiet ones and you can feel the car bog a little. *Hijack off*

check your rocker arms, my motor was making alot loud clicking noises toward the higher rpms. then i discovered it was only on the passenger side of the motor. pulled the valve covers and i could move 4 rockers by hand. Adjust them all and it runs smooth now. except for above said problem.

yeah, I had a feeling that was the problem. One cam lobe is going flat (or is already). Damn flat tappet lifters. I already adjusted the rocker arm once before. Next up, complete roller setup. Hopefully that'll solve the problem.

uh yessr mine makes a poping noise like something is hitting? :( goes away after its warmed up.:dunno: adn it only does it when you first start it, begin to drive and stomp it. its starting to piss me off. im hoping its just my timing i know its not far enough advanced. Thats were it feels sluggish right? lol
