Hopefully a quick question guys.

I'm getting ready to replace my motor mounts due to the brackets making contact with the frame.

my question is, are there different style engine brackets between the 2WD and 4WD trucks?

when I was ordering the poly inserts I noticed a few different styles for brackets that bolted to the engine, and I want to make sure I have the right stuff up front because I'm building a transfercase cross member.

my engine is originally out of a 96 c1500 witch is why I wanted to ask the question.

I may have to look at those again, I try to be cheap in some places that way I can spend the money elsewhere. I've already ordered the poly inserts, so I may send them back if these brackets are wrong.

thanks for the reply though!

Its expensive to be cheap.
I've got 10 years on my diy4x mounts.
It's really not much more.

Also, you should do a matching poly trans mount at the same time.

I actually do have a poly trans mount now.

you are right that the 100 bucks isnt that much more money but having a second child on the way really tightens down on the truck money.

If your truck is used off-road I would recommend the aftermarket mounts from ORD or DIY4X. I tied the poly inserts and ripped both within the first year. The BBC played a role in the failure but I still thought it was premature.

We all can agree with spending. However, you'll be buying em twice if you start with the inserts.

yea it sounds like a pretty solid consensus on the diy4x/ORD mounts. looks like I'll be putting it off a month or so to get those mounts.

I appreciate the help guys.

I think I am going to go with a set of ORD motor mounts in my truck too. I bought a set of cheap chinese ones for my new Chevy crate engine only about 10,000 miles ago, and even with mostly street driving the mounts are already starting to collapse.

yea hopefully summit wont give me to much of an issue with my return. my truck is mainly used off road so if I gotta put it off a bit longer to get the right stuff then that's what I'll do.

will I still be able to install the diy4x mounts one side at a time without having to use a hoist?

I just put the Diy4x on my truck. They fit great. Before my crank dampener was @ 3/16ths above the cross member, with fairly new genuine GM non Chinese rubber mounts. Now the dampener is @¾" above.

Didn't take alot of pics here is 1 of engine side inside the old bucket

I installed mine with someone holding a pry bar on the frame to engine and holding it up. I was young and dumb but it was actually super simple and very fast.

with a jack and a 2x4 you should be able to pull that off.

great the 2x4 method is what I was planning on doing since I'm gonna be going at it on my own.

This honestly sounds like something I would do, so I guess it a good thing I'm doing it alone.

I've used alot of "less than proper" methods to get work done on this truck.

i have had good luck for years on my energy suspension inserts . i plow snow / trail ride / daily drive / pull trailer .

if i had a real hard core crazy rig i might jump up to the ord or diy4x stuff .

welcome to the site :burnout:

I dont think mine is crazy hard core but I most use it for crawling and mud slinging

I definitely wanted to sure up the mounts before rebuilding my transfer case cross members, so that hopefully my transmission doesnt have to make friends with any more rocks.

That is about how I was thinking of doing it. I was going to remove the distributor cap so it does not slam into the firewall. Then use my engine hoist to lift the engine, set a short piece of 2X4 on either side of the oil pan rails, and then let some slack down on the engine hoist, but still have enough slack that if the 2X4 slips out the engine hoist will catch the engine.

If that is your transmission, then your problem is not the mounts it is not having any of the factory brace brackets.
