How hard is it to pull apart the motor mounts on a 91 k5 and replace them? Anyone have pictures on how they did it ect?

Also, where did you get your replacement mounts?

thanks :)

You can just go to Autozone, or Napa or pretty much any parts store and buy complete bolt in replacement mounts. Pretty much a pain to do with the engine in, but no reason to really rebuild them when you can just pick them up.

x2, i need to change my mounts but dont want to pull the motor to do so. are there any tricks that make changing them possible without pulling the motor?

I recently changed the motor mounts on my "project" Blazer. The body is off so it was ridiculously easy.

I priced new ones from GM and they were roughly $83.00 each (I think they list for over $100.00). I bought new ones from NAPA for $10.21 each.

I'm sure they're not as good but I could not justify the eight-fold price difference.

Jack the front of the engine up with a floor jack and 2x4. Do one side at a time. remove/replace the mount. Drop it down. Do the other side.

Put the wood on the crank itself if possible. The balancer if you must- not the pully.

I would avoid buying part store mounts, they are made out of cheap Chinese rubber, normally last a year most. I would invest in some energy suspension ones or a set from DIY4X.com

And lets not forget, whatever compound you go with use it in the t-case mount too. Don't mix them up.

DIY4X mounts FTW!!! i did mine in less than an hour. all i used was a floor jack with some wood blocks and a large pry bar. me and my dad had it knocked it out really quick. its definatley nice to have someone to man the prybar.

They are easy to do as long as you do one side at a time. Use a floor jack with a piece of wood under the oil pan and jack the engine up enough to remove the motor nmount bolt then go high enough to unbolt and remove the mount. It took me bout 30 minutes to do both sides on mine.

I got mine from LMC, I was buying some other parts for my 91 burb from them so I just got the motor and tranny mounts. I was doing a motor swap so it was pretty easy.

I ran the Napa motor mounts on my Astro for two years and 150k miles, and they never had the slop that was there in the factory mounts.

i got autozone mounts, the rubber helps the motor not shake/rattle the rest of the k5, plus if i rip 1 apart, they have lifetime warranty replacement!
