Motor Mounts

I am having issues with motor mounts not lasting long at all. The set I have now have lasted maybe 4 months. I am running a mild 350 to a 700r4 with a strong shift kit. Currently I am using stock mounts.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so did going to the kit from diy4x help you out? I know I would need to change the trans mount then also.

Whats everyones thoughts?

fyi stock parts store replacements are worse than stock orignals.

get energy suspension to replace if still going stock clamb shell.

or if beefy upgrade yes go get diy4x mounts or off road design .

general idea is if poly in motor or trans/tcase then other needs it also. so do both engine and tranny/tcase at same time.

Good thing I have a few sets from trucks I parted, all originals in very good shape.
I am set for life.

I've broke motor mounts before, but not after a few months. Must be one hell of a hard shift. Go to Kert's mounts and don't look back. They are like spring eye bushing and they can handle the abuse for a lot longer.

They are advance auto mounts. They let the motor sag to where it sits down on the crossmember. The bracket off the motor. These didnt make it long at all. Really pisses me off. Who makes good rubber stock ones? If no one i guess I know what I will be doing.

Are you sure you are getting the correct ones?
The 2wd mounts are 1/4" shorter and after a few months they would be touching like you said.
Happened to me, that is how I learned.
I will try and get a pic of the 2 side by side.

They are suppose to be 4wd but im sure its always possible.

Maybe try a different parts store?

Going to the DIY4X crossmember would be sweet, but the stockers should last far longer than what you're getting from them.

On the 73-87 clamshell type mounts,there are two different versions of the steel brackets that bolt to the engine,one for cars and 2wd trucks,and one with longer "legs" for 4x4's that have the thru-bolt hole about an inch further away from the block than the car/2wd versions do...using the wrong brackets will make the engine slant towards the front,not sit level,and can cause the balancer to rub on the crossmember...I have never had an issue with clamshell mounts failing,not originals anyway...they are kind of bullet proof,even if the rubber instert falls apart,the thru bolt cannot come out,but it can rattle around in the empty shell and cause problems...only seen a few fail like that though,usually after an oil soaking for decades...

Had some chain auto parts store motor mounts I used on my truck when I put the motor in (anchor brand, they were made in India), and while it had been 8 years or so, the truck probably had less than 10,000 miles of use. One mount looked new, the other was in bad shape. Trans mount was fine.

Went to the energy suspension three mount set (engine and trans) and don't seem to be having any issues. Not that I'd expect any, just didn't want to replace them again, even in 8 years.
