Motor numbers...

So i bought a shortbed 300 blown motor (2rods through oil pan)

Supposed ot have vortec heads...casting number reveals 87-91 305 heads 14102187

I cant read the number on the back of the block...but i got hte one on the front under the alternator.

Anybody know what that is? i had the website to decode a while back and now i cant find it.

you fell in to the sellers trap. its a sbc 350 out of 70 camaro 350hp. bla bla. get home and its a 78 267 out of a car pile of crap.


true vortec heads have 4 bolts only in the intake to hold it down. you got a tbi stock style motor and junk tbi heads. sorry.

true vortec style intake . note 2 bolt holes on each corner only.

Thats what i thought too...after research there are aftermarket vortec heads witht eh standard 12intake bolts thouhg... What doesnt make sense is that the center bolts arent straight up and down like typical tbi heads, theyre angled like normal, so ima guss that they drilled the heads to accept the stock intake that came on the truck.

oh well no biggie. i paid 300 for the truck, i was goign to pay 250 for just a cab...see my thought process?
