My truck is acting up. It's an 85 Jimmy with a 350/700R-4. The problem is sometimes when I'm driving down the road usually just cruisin something cuts out for a split second and then its just fine for awhile. I don't know if its in the motor or if the tranny is locking up for a split second. The motor has 25k and the tranny has 15k on them. I also have an MSD 6 offroad box, coil, and wires. Has anyone had a problem like this or know what is going on? thanks

Does the whole motor cut out or does it kinda bog or sputter? Hard to say without more detail and stuff but would think maybe a carb problem just off the little tiny bit I know about your prob. Any specfic times it does it? Hot? cold? speed wise?

The whole motor cuts out for a split second. It usually happens when I'm cruising at highway speed, but I've had it do it at idle and at other speeds too. The carb was rebuilt not to long ago also. Something cuts out, the truck jerks, and then I'm cruisin fine again like nothing happened. It only happens for a split second, and the truck has always been at normal operating temp as far as I can remember and it not a bogging down or loss of power. I was thinking it might be in the ignition but the MSD was installed correctly as far as I can tell and the distributor was rebuilt about 3 years ago.

The MSD might be getting hot, and breaking the circuit briefly. Another thing to try is throwing a new module in the HEI and seeing what happens.

The MSD is high on the firewall, but I'll try a heat shield, can't hurt. When the MSD is installed the module is removed. I have the 4 pin module in my truck as spare parts incase I need them or someone else does. Also the distributor was rebuilt to act like a normal distributor, the computer, or whatever they used in 85 to control spark was bypassed.

OK - I'd try a heat shield then - they do get intermittent when they get hot.

I have mine on the inner fender well in my Firebird. I have never had a problem with it getting too hot. I would check the fuel filter. My Jimmy would do that every once in a while. Mine was the fuel filter was clogged. I would replace the fuel filter and the fuel pump. The pump and filter are easy to replace and are cheap.

I agree w/ DD... pump and filter would be cheap and probably fix your prob
