Ok, I got a random assortment of things I want to attach to my topper (which should be finished up in two weeks finally). I'm looking for something specific, but don't know how to go about finding it.

What I'm looking for is a type of threaded insert or something similar. My plan is to drill the hard top in places and put a steel insert in. These inserts would be used to mount a rack and/or lights, but it has to be able to come off to fit in the garage. I don't want to just bolt stuff through the hard top because of leaks and holes in the top. If I use some sort of threaded insert, it would allow the top to still be flat with the rack off. My k5 clears the garage by a nats ass currently. :haha:

Any ideas? or experiences? Or maybe something that works better than what I'm thinking?

I seem to recall a specialty fastener that was threaded on the outside like a bolt, so you'd drill a hole of its OD, then use washers and a nut inside ... but it was drilled down the center and threaded. The outer diameter would be like 1/2", and it would fit prolly a 1/4" or maybe 5/16" bolt down the center.

I swear I remember seeing it in a thread about mounting stuff to the hardtop for this very reason, clearance and ability to remove...
