'85 K5: BIG BAD AND MEAN

On my dad's old truck there where holes in the metal where the knobs were. We had to cut out the metal so the stereo would fit. You might want to go ahead and buy the mounting kit so you can find out what needs to be cut and what doesn't.

I ran into the same problem until I found out that CRUTCHFIELD carries a trim plate designed just for this install. I wish I could post a photo but.. I assure you this will look great compared to most "HACK" jobs that I've seen . Unfortunately it cost $10.00 plus $4.95 to ship but still well worth it.

If you value your interrior...
spent the 50 bucks and have it installed....

You any good w/ a Sawzall???

I had a new Clarion deck installed last fall in my 84, and I sat with the tech while he installed it. As far as I'm concerned, it was the best $50 I ever spent........it took the guy an hour, and when it was done the deck looked like it had always been there!

He had to trim the sheet metal to fit the deck in, and there was a lot more to pulling the factory unit out than I imagined. You might want to add to b's post above "if you value your back"- the whole experience looked really uncomfortable, too.

BTW, the shop included the trim ring in the cost of the install.

--Metra makes a dash kit, part number 87-99-3052, it has a metal plate and an abs plastic trim that fits nicely. It is the way to do it. I do them quite often and have found the kit makes life easier.
