What do you guys with an auto do with your tach(s)?On the dash it blinds me at night..Right now its on the colum , but it turns with it to....LOL

I had one mounted on top of the dash in the corner. The auto meter's you can move the mount towards the back of the pod and it is perfect. I ran a sport comp that had a black face and lit up the numbers green. It was never too bright.

Is your illumination wire hooked up correctly to the dimmer? Hook it up to the illumination wire at the back of the stereo.

mine is a cheap POS summit tach, but never have an issue. It dims with the rest of the lights.

I was looking in the Classified section the other day at the complete vehicles for sale and I saw Thunder's Blazer that he was selling. It looked like he had the tach mounted under the dash right in front of the t-case lever.

I like that setup a lot and when I get a tach next weekend, that's where mines going.

I considered that, but WAY out of my line of vision when driving. When trying to tow, and keep the torque converter locked, i am constantly driving off the tach.

I have mine mounted towards the bottom of the dash too, it's not bad, if you are driving off the tach, you shouldn't be staring at it anyways, glance at it like you do your other gauges, keep driving.

I just drive half way across country with a completely loaded burb, pulling a pretty heavily loaded trailer, my speed-o cable broke half way through the trip, just used the tach and hearing to determine speed.

Normal driving, i don't really bother to watch the tach. BUT, towing, i'm often by myself, rocking out, stereo cranked, jamming down the freeway. Damn gutless 350, its hard to hear, even with exhaust, then the torque converter unlocks/locks in OD w/o the tach. And with as hard as i'm running it, letting unlock is not what i want to do.

Well if your 350 is that gutless, maybe running it NOT in overdrive would be a better option, especially if you're not running a decent trans cooler.

Probably a major reason i don't really eagle eye the tach or anything, i do keep tabs on stuff, just would rather watch the road and be safe, than worry every second about what the trans and motor are doing, i am running a fairly large trans cooler, and it was also just recently rebuilt by a highly reccommended builder. So far all working great .

I dunno, i keep hearing from alot of people, that when towing, you're not really suppose to have the trans in the OD selection anyways, i rarely did on my trip, primarily on the downhill sides, or on the flat lands with minimal headwind.

I'm running a built 4l80e with aux cooler. So really, with teh 3-4k i tow normally, running in OD is fine. Even with teh torque converter unlocked, temps stay in check. I just like to keep it locked when cruising long distances...saves the heat off the trans, and saves gas.

But anyways, back on topic.....

my old setup.. worked pretty sweet....

I have to keep mine close, right now my dash lights dont work and my 3 little ones and gas go off with the lights....I havent had time to check it (im lazy).
(It cant be down a whole day right now,I need it at night.)

Ill just keep it on the colum for now,I adjusted it to be right in Drive. And off to the left also,so I can see the speedo and Gas gauge.

Off topic : I need to kook uo my trans temp gauge, its in the 4th hole on the left side.It would be cool.

i use to have one mounted on the upper left of the dash and found that i had to go out of my way to look at it. with the new truck it's going above the top right of the cluster
