So i have searched and come up with several different answers and was hopping to get some clarification. I have a 1990 K5 and am putting 63" springs on the rear with a black widow performance shackle flip(looks just like DIY4x).

I have heard you you can only move your axle back 3" with out problems such as tank contact! To me it looks like i have more than 3"????

What is your input on this and any picture or experiance would be nice.

I moved mine back 5.5" No good picture to show how close it is, but it will kiss the skid plate if it rear is completely compressed.

I moved mine back 4" (56" springs swapped so 30" forward) Have only cycled the suspension with a cherry picker, but looks to be no problem, and I moved my tank forward 2" and upward 3" also.

to properly fit 63's you have to move the front hanger forward and the rear hanger back.. take a look at your front hanger and look at your body mount on the outside of the frame rail.. that's where your hanger will end up.. you need to fab up a shackle hanger with a body mount incorperated into it.. or move your axle back farther, at that point it would look ghetto fab.. talk to kurt at diy4x, he can probably fab something up.. i also have a 1990, and i just went with 56's front and rears with the diy flip and front b52's..

Thanks for the reply's helps give me a general idea of what to expect!

Emo thanks for the info but i am way past that point the question was more about how far back can i go with my setup?

Bringing this thread back!

Did you use a shackle flip, if so did you have to swap the shackle flip brackets to the opposite/ "wrong side" for the 56" springs to fit?

How is running 56" springs in the rear and having the rear axle pushed 4" rearward? In other words, how does it ride, is it pretty flexy, is it reasonable "stable" for road driving?

Another characteristic to check would be axle wrap. Having the 56's backwards puts the axle on the "wrong" side of the spring arc and I've read that can cause more wrap than if they were installed forward.

That said, I have my 56's backwards and a Zero Rate pushing 1" forward so my axle is 3" back. I plan to run a traction bar to combat the potential axle wrap.

Good info to know. Let me ask you this, I've read multiple places that to run a 56" spring in the rear that the shackle flip bracket DOES NOT have to be flipped to the opposite/ "wrong side". I'm looking for a confirmation on this.

I had to swap sides with mine (ORD 2.5" flip). They way the brackets are offset I don' see how you could even get close to bolting 56's on with the brackets installed "correctly".

Damn... I said the wrong thing... I meant moved back. Sorry about that.

I wanted a confirmation on being able to run 56" springs in the rear and only having to swap the shackle flip brackets to the opposite/ "wrong side", instead of having to relocate the shackle flip brackets further back on the frame.

I'm sorry, I may have worded it wrong - to install 56's in place of 52's, you only need to swap sides with the shackle flip brackets (they're offset). No relocating further back, drilling, etc..

Yep, but you will need a longer shackle. Don't quote me on length but the stocker is like 4.5" and you'll need 6" minimum. This is what I have.
