I've grafted in a fuel door into a box side that didn't have one. Moving one back a little wouldn't be too hard, except maybe having to alter the fuel fill tube...
Anyways, my pics in case they help any at all.

If you're moving it back it'll be somewhat easier than what I had to deal with. I had the flare of the wheel opening at the corner of my fuel door assembly. Made things a bit more interesting.
I think you could use an elbow of some sort for the fuel filler neck part..
