'84 Burb with a rebuilt 454 carbed. For about the same money I can either put a used 8.1 in or put a MPFI on the 454. I know the 454 is good the 8.1 runs and sounds fine, has 70k miles on it, '02 model.

If I go 8.1 I would be able to sell the 454 and recoupe most if not all my money. 8.1 w/ harness computer etc is $1900. Also, I'd be able to sell my 4l80e controller to recoupe even more money.

What does everyone think? A MPFI 454 would be the ****, but so would a 8.1.

With gas prices on the rise go with the 454 :) haha but honestly I don't think you could go wrong between the two...

Any idea what kind of numbers you'd be looking at?

Either one would be cool, and milage about the same, maybe a little better with the 8.1... and it's bigger:D The 8.1's generally do burn oil though.

Does the 8.1 computer control it and the tranny, or just the motor? I didn't think the 8.1 was available with the 4l80e, just the 5speed auto or the 6speed stick.

I thought the 8.1 had the 4l80 behind it....if not then I would need to keep my controller.

Avery, you asked about numbers....pricing? would be about $2000, hp? I have not idea on the 454...basiclly stock but it pulls the burb around very easy...the 8.1 has like 340 and 440...something like that stock
