The goal 25mpg mixed driving, some easy trails, beach trips.

Starting point a 91 k5, 350tbi, power everything, auto trans.,np241, stock running gear 31x10.5 bfg's.

Speed is not a huge concern but it must be able to keep up with traffic. Diesel, gas both are fine. Perfer to keep the auto trans. I know there will be a few people who suggest getting a Geo, honda or somthing but the K5 is what we have to work with. I feel confident with enough brains working on this it CAN happen.

Lets begin!

Only way to get near that number is to swap in a 6.2, IMO. Of course, what do I know, Im pickled tink when I get 9.

and I feel confident enough that a 6.2L swap is the only direction to even consider, and that for the cost of it you could buy a honda or geo beater to get even better mileage. It may not be cool but I have a Saturn for a driver, it gets 3 times the mileage of my pickup or my old K5 on a bad day(the saturn having a bad day that is).

I already have a Focus but I like to drive the K5. If I could get better MPG I would drive all the time.

I have concidered the 6.2 as an option, also a 3.9 4bt.

Get a motorcycle or a Honda Insight to go with the Blazer then add the mileages together and divide by 2.

6.2 and an OD tranny. Aim to get your cruise rpm (~65 mph) in around 1800. My current combo (6.2, SM 465, 4.56's and 39.5's) gets 16.5 freeway but spins at 2600 rpm. I'm getting close to swapping an NV4500 in and running 37" radials which should get my mileage up to 22 or so on the highway. I'd be tickled with 22...

A Cummins 4cyl. out of a bread truck, or even a regular 6bt. If you drive it like you are trying to save fuel, you could easily achieve 20mpg. I had a 3/4ton extended cab long bed with 35" BFGs that got 18-20. And I drove the piss out of that truck. It was a 24valve cummins with 4.10 gears. The GMC that I helped build get around 20mpg, and that thing hauls a$$.:saweet:

A 91 4x4 Blazer with 350TBI is EPA rated at 13/16.
With a 6.2 NA its 16/22.

You'd have to at least double your mileage to get 25 MPG mixed.

You could shed some pounds for free: top, doors, truck or no tailgate for starters. Then get creative.

If you figure it out, you MUST share. We'd all love to have 25MPG lead bricks to drive around. :)

ill most likely be goin to a diesel this summer. im debating bout a 6.2 or 6.5, possibly turbo'n it when funds allow

As would 99.9% of all the other people here. I love my K5 but it's not my daily driver anymore because of the 7.8 mpg it averages. I have an old beater Honda Accord for daily use.

I got worse mileage when i lost all of that highway wise, not sure about in town, probibly could have improved then... i think its worse off as far as aerodynamics goes.
