MPG on '89 454

MPG on \'89 454

I'm looking at an 89 k3500 with the 454 and supposably an overdrive automatic. The web site claims 15/19 MPG rating when the truck was new. Is this possible? It's now got 110,000 miles on it what problems should it have by now?

Perhaps at 55 MPH, with the tires inflated to 100 PSI, with an 80 MPH tailwind. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Most 454 owners that I've talked with about mileage have told me that they get about 9 in town and 11 on the highway. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

Hahaha..I wouldn't get that kinda mileage if I let the truck idle on the bed of a semi doin 80! I get about 11-12 on the highway and about 6-9 in town depending on how I am drving it!!!

That's what I've heard, and that's what they're rated for in the mid 90's but the power was lower in 89 and I thought maybe, just maybe it was possible.

My FI 502 gets about 5-6 and thats w/ the new o2 sensor.

I've got an 88 Chev V30 with the SM465 and 4.10 gears and it was getting about 10mpg in the city (unloaded) before I tuned it.

I resemble that remark.

Last time I checked mileage w/my 93 was on the trip back when I bought it. Got 12. It was in serious need of a new air filter and a tune up. Haven't checked in since. Need to try agian. Should do a LOT better.

Not a stock combo. 454 never came with TH700, and the 4L80E didn't begin until '91. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif Gear Vendors OD?

Another mileage horror story - my Dad gets 6-10 mpg (the 10mpg is downhill w/tailwind /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif ) with his stock '79 C20 crewcab w/454/TH400 and 11' camper.

My 88 454 TH400 burb with 3.73 best tank ever was 11.5 and it tok setting the cruise on 65mph and driving 200 straight miles in one shot to do it.
Normal driving around town 9.5
70mph hwy A/C on no major loads 10.5
65 hwy no A/C 5600lb on trailer. 10.2
