Mpg?
What kind of Mileage are you diesel guys getting out of your diesel blazers? Need something with good(better) mileage then my k5, figured diesel might be the way to go and id love another toy, if the mpg was worth it.

Thanks

I get about 25 mpg with my 95 Tahoe 6.5 TD. You can get in the 30's with a Cummins 4BT conversion.
a manual transmission will give you 2 to 7 MPG more depending on your driving habits.
I go about 7 MPG more with a manual due to my propensity to coast. I hate doing brake jobs so I avoid using my brakes.

I think lower twenties would be pretty reasonable keeping a few things in mind. You want higher gears like 3.08, and you will want tires on the small and narrow side around 30-31 inches/8 or so inches, as well as an overdrive tranny like the 700r4 backing it up. The least amount of weight that the drivetrain is spinning the more likely it is to achieve better mileage, so in this aspect an np208/np241, might be an advantage over an older cast iron case like the np205/np203. Also I think automatics are in the long run more efficient when driving is a mix of city/hwy. The more driving in the city, the more likely you or others would be to hear the rpms sing and effectively sink the mileage with a manual tranny. Whereas an auto, will give you consistent shift points and more consistent mileage. A manual tranny with an overdrive will only give consistently better mileage when you do nothing but hwy driving imo.

Uao I think your full of poop on your ideas that an automatic will get as good as or better milage than a manual trans. I've logged over a million miles most of it in the Chicago metro area & I know there is no way that I could match my manual trans milage with an auto. But for somebody that doesn't know how to drive what You say is probably true. I've gone through 2 clutches in all my miles. 2 differant times I had to drive a week without a clutch or take off work to either fix it or have it fixed. First time was in Chcago area The 2nd in Springfield & Bloomington.
If a person learns to leave some space and coast up to the car in front of them rather than ride their tails and jam the brakes every time the idiot in front of you does you'll get better milage & get where your going just as fast no matter what you drive. I've had trips home from near Wisconsin that I only had to use the brakes when coming to a complete stop - about 140 mile most of which is metro driving.
To each his own
