Mr. Clean's dune cruising 71' K5 "Oprah" beams, links, and turbo ls powwwa

It's a sand toy, HP is king. You're going to be disappointed to spend $2k+ and all that effort for "only" 300hp.
Go 6.0 for sure. Also while you're checking around call Kevin at Pacific Fab. He's a friend of mine and they are heavily involved in the LS marketplace. They have another company, Tilden Motorsports that deals with all of this stuff.
:waytogo:
I'm gonna get one of their new intakes when I put the cam in my SS

For only $200 difference, it would be stupid to buy the 4.8.

Martin
x2 for $200 dollars it shouldn't even be a debate. rpm is king in the sand, but smooth controllable torque off the line gets you rolling without just digging.

(I understand with paddles its less of a concern, but still $200 for an extra 25hp? people spend that much for less all day every day)

MuddySub put one of their turn key motors in his suburban. Check out his build thread

I knew he did and I think, colbystephens either did or was planning on it as well.

This was pretty much the reaction i was looking for to be completely honest. I think the 4.8 is exactly what i need. Not one thing about Oprah fits into the standard norm of what is expected to do our what the vast majority of people do. Thats why i have a solid axle 2wd blazer that can take down any big block in a poor suspension truck over a distance. Im not building a sand drag truck. My blazer works on pure momentum. The facts simply are Oprah can carry more momentum then 75% of the vehicles i see in the sand allowing me to do much more fun things. So with keeping pace to keeping Oprah different I want the 4.8. Its nota money thing im not worried about spending the money its just for what i do and need the 4.8 is perfect.

I seem to recall a time when not one person thought it was going to be a good idea to make a 2wd solid axle sand truck. Its going to get stuck to much. It wont go anywhere. .........now everyone seems to love the heck out of it. 4.88 gears a 300hp 4.8. In time i think it would be cool to turbo it. But for now i just want reliability, fuel injection, and 300hp.......oh yah and a bunch of people pissed off they just got beat by 2wd solid axle with a 4.8.

To try and put it in a little more perspective. That orange first gen step side deulings cousin bought and brought to the dunes with the nasty 468bbc. We ran a stretch probally 500yds long and at the end of it i was probally 300yds out front. Sand is not about hp. Its about MOMENTUM.

I'm not trying to come across as a dick. Or discredit any advice anyone of you has given. I appreciate all the input. I just know what i want the truck to do and where my own goals our and often times when giving advice or input i think people loose site of giving input on what the owner wants and not what you think would be cool. Or what you would do.

The offer is always out there. If you think a 2wd solid axle blazer making 150hp is dumb and no fun can be had. Get here! And i will prove you wrong:D

I agree a 5.3 would be cool for the extra 200 but if you are going to toss boost at it the thicker walls would be nice and you will most likely swap cams and then who cares about factory specs then?

Ya buy the second one for Dueling... lol

I think my blazer is too heavy for 4.8. Id love to do it and have matching blazer engines, but mine doesn't do momentum as well as nates bare bones blazer....

One of the differences. Deulings blazer tool box = 500lbs but has anything and everything you would ever need to fix anything. My blazer tool bag that i zip tie to my cage = 2 adjustables, zip ties, electrical torch, assorted electical fittings, mini torch, 1 phillips 1 flat head. Weighs 7lbs.

My thoughts are cant fix it with my tool kit get a ride to the parking lot where the ford is with all the real tools in my tool box.

yeah, if I'm at the dunes I pull everything out of the Blazer except a tow strap. Everything else stays at camp :D

Just FYI, a guy here, rjfguitar room something, just had a good bit of trouble with his Pacific fab swap. And muddy sub has been satisfied with his bd engine.

So I think this is the ticket.

1750 for a drop in ready 4.8l with a 1 year warranty. If anyone knows of somewhere who can beat that let me know.

Thanks for the drop Smokinthehippies.

Technically Avery dropped them. I just collaberated.

It helped being close to them (I lived in the town they're based out of) so I mean I've wheeled and camped with those guys. So the argument could e made that skews my opinion bias. I know rFJ had a bad run. But they have a LOT of satisfied customers with only a few bad stories. I have no knowledge of that situation so I can't/won't comment on it, but I'd trust Jason/Kevin to do it right and would have no problem ordering from them when the times comes.

Like Mitch says. BD turnkey is another viable option. There's also a guy outta Kansas that pops up on my local Craigslist that sells 5.3s with a standalone trimmed harness with accessories and a 4l80 for like $2500. 6.0 w/ 4l800 for $3200.
Can only assume a 4.8/4l60 combo would be slap cheap too. Don't know about the warranty tho.
