Mr. Clean's dune cruising 71' K5 "Oprah" beams, links, and turbo ls powwwa

Gonna try and get a hold of the company next week sometime and see whats going on. Im guess some kind of shipping goof on their behalf as i still as of today have one charge on my account.

Most likely nothing will happen and you will get to keep it free of charge. This happens all the time. Was it eBay?

good Karma coming your way!

Summit did that to me one time with those little grease zerk to needle adapters. I ordered one and a case of 10 showed up. Called and they said keep them.
Then again nine extra grease zerk adapters aren't as cool as one extra turbo.

From the pics it looks like a churbo to me.

Thus the name churbo. Chinese Turbo. They can be fine or crap. It's luck of the draw. The Miata guys run a lot of chrubos with one guy having great luck and the next toasting it in 200 miles. It's a crapshoot but more having decent luck than not.

Got some time today to finally mess with some stuff so I spent a lot of it getting the motor on the stand, got the wire harness unhooked, started cleaning off and disassembling some of the things I don't need or are going to be getting replaced.

Cleaned up pretty good. The accessories need to come off yet and then I will power wash the block and shoot a coat of rattle can on it and call it good. I also was able to get my harness dropped off to a buddy of mine who is going to build a stand alone for me.

Then I switched my focus to getting the blazer ready for this weekend. Labor day weekend at silver lake with Deuling and the whole gang. 4 days of dune thrashing can't wait :woot:

The last trip up there a few weeks back my fuel tank started leaking and leaked a steady drip all day until I got home it quit. I figured it just leaked all the gas out. So today I sanded down the spot where it was leaking to find a crack. Once I cleaned the crack out of the grime and dirt it sprung like a fountain and gas was flowing all over the floor. I was able to manage getting a gas can quickly and just let it drain into it. Once it was done some JB weld on it and Oprah is dune ready once again :thumb:

Shoulda welded the tank..

TOP TIP:

You can fix a leaking gas tank by rubbing a simple bar of bath soap on the cracked area...

Throw a bar in the toolbox, it's good for washing hands too! :haha:

Gotta love those cheap fixes. I assume with the new motor you are going to go to a fuel cell?

I'm never one to recommend chinese parts, especially a turbo, because of the engine carnage that may ensue if the compressor wheel shreds. But then again, if the turbo costs more than the $300 engine, you won't lose much anyway, at least they sent you a spare. :thumb:

Does that thing have a compressor map from the manufacturer?

Nevermind, I looked myself before I hit send and they state pretty clearly they don't. I was going to plot a couple points for you.

I tried to find one the other day, good luck. Just matching the engine airflow with compressor size might get you close. The a/r and induced and exducer are what your looking for

If the manufacturer doesn't have it I am not wasting time looking for it, I doubt any serious turbo companies are willing to map a chinese turbo. It's probably just a copy of an american design anyway with inferior materials, tolerances, and balancing. This can cause it to spool up slower and flow different so I wouldnt trust a map that was found anyway. If I got two turbos I would measure the endplay and check for wobble and pick the best one of the two if you have to send one back.

Yupp. No reason to put any time into a tank that has 3-4 dune trips left before it gets junked. The JB weld will work just fine...i know this because i have done it before:thumb:

I've had better luck sealing gas tanks long term with Seal-All (just my .02) j b allways broke free eventually.

I don't think he is worried about it being a very serious repair.
