I’m seriously considering backing off my plan to drive the K5 across country and ship it in an enclosed trailer. So far this guy communicates clearly and comes recommended by UPAC. Any used them before care to provide some real feedback?

Nope, but all communication will stop and your experience will change once the money changes hands. Ask me how I know.
Right. @dhcomp ?
I have experience doing it twice. Once shipping a boat for Darren @dhcomp And once shipping my Studebaker.

Have any friends at a local car dealership? They may be able to make recommendations. That’s how I brought the K5 here from San Fran.

You are doing the right thing trying to get a review of a good shipper. The whole industry is horrible. I have shipped a couple jeeps (wrecked a hardtop), many military trucks (tore a soft top, 1 ruined tire and a damaged driveshaft) and some containers (blew his motor up and left my stuff in PA). My experiences have been terrible. Finally found a local trucker to pay both ways. Cost a lot more but he was on time and didn't damage anything. Good luck. Driving it may be worth the hassle.

This place (a broker) is much more expensive than all the others I contacted and has an A+ rating with the BBB. They also carry their own insurance. I still may decide to drive it but the place offered to contact a few drivers that offered covered transport and see if any would take it on. If he can’t find anyone I like at a reasonable cost before I leave then there’s “no harm no foul”, I don’t lose anything by canceling on them. We shall see.

I'd drive it. I drove mine when we moved to Edmonton. Not as far, but I also had a 4000 lb trailer hooked to it full of my garage stuff. With me I had my eldest daughter, her boyfriend at the time, and two cats. Maybe not ideal, but we made it and had/have a story to tell now and then.

Roadkill!

No, the one guy I knew moved to Minnesota.
I will see if any of my friends still do this.
I will let you know.
I would ship a car in a heartbeat but our trucks are big tall and heavy, not many can handle them and they charge too much.
How are you moving again?
Moving company or uhaul?

I can tell you my k20 on 40s was $1500 from Morgan hill to Omaha, Ne. Took forever to find a guy because there was a 454 and a bunch of parts in the bed.

There’s a few that would take them in an open carrier, but with it being an open top, I want it enclosed. If nothing enclosed is available, it’s just easier to drive it out. We’re using a Upack trailer. Other than that it’s DIY.

This company has been known to do a good job. They have been in business forever. They seem to be the favorite carrier at Jackson Barrett and Mecum classic car auctions. They are probably expensive though.

Looks like they found a driver. Picking it up tomorrow or Saturday. I’m a little sad about the extra cash outlay, but happy I don’t need to drive through that distance.

Driver is supposed to pick it up today. It’s 5:30pm. Dispatch can’t get ahold of the carrier. Interesting start to this adventure. Not sure if I’m driving it or not now.

It's bay area drivers never get there on time.
Only owner operators care and make it on time

Maybe. I was told daylight hours on the 14th or 15th and is supposed to call ahead to give “reasonable notice” that he’s arriving soon. Any guess on what reasonable notice would be? The dispatch said they might be unreachable by phone because he’s on the way.

8pm and still no word. I guess he still technically had 4 hours left to pick it up. I’m not sure I can make it past 10pm tonight though.
