In the next week or so I am going to be putting the MSD in my 74 Jimmy. My question is for those of you that have done it is there any tricks or problems you ran into. And how did you like it when it was done?

not to be rude. search msd in here. you will find basicly 99% happy. and used on carb stuff you CAN tell it works. efi injection not as much. :thumb:

oh ya and welcom to the sight.

:woot:I will let you know what I think tomorrow, I have a guy putting the HEI in my 72' as we speak. He is also going to re-jet the carb and get that dialed in :woot:

Point taken about the search. I did a quick one but didnt see a thread talking about it. I guess I need to dig deeper:doah:

Thanks for the welcome to the site.

no problem buddy.

yu guys will be amazed the diffrence in starting and smother running on your carb stuff.

The only thing to look out for is the coil... I seem to do a great job at grounding it through me while adjusting the timing :doah: packs a pretty good punch :eek1:

It's currently located on the intake, I'm going to be moving it to the firewall sometime soon.

Don't use the original power wire for the new HEI -- the original has a resistor along the way and the HEI won't get full power.

Strictly speaking, I'd run a nice thick wire (say, #10) to the battery, with a relay to the fusebox (something that's hot in crank and run, of course) to get maximum voltage to the new dizzy.

I've been thinking about doing this too. My coil wire in my EZ-Wiring kit is tiny. Like 16 or something.

Also, for the OP, I had a little trouble plugging the wires to the dizzy. It wanted to push the contacts up into the cap, rather than slip together. Pull the very top of the cap, the part that covers the coil, and make sure when plugging the wires on...that the connectors under that cover don't simply push up.

I bought a 74 K 5 a month ago and changed the plugs, wires, distributror, and added an msd 6al box, coil and distributor. It runs much better now.

Man, HEI ROCKS, what a difference, no more stuttering on take off, foul smelling exhaust in the garage or just plain sounding like sh!t at idle. I will never go back to points :woot: :woot: :woot: Best upgrade yet
