I too, would say that for 40 bucks, go for it...retail price...forget it!
Just as the other posts mentioned, my new OEM HEI coil lasted about 6 months... it seems that when the coil fried, it took the MSD with it....now I need to find the receipt, box, etc. and send it back to MSD for them to fix. When it was in, yeah my engine ran smooth, but guess what...It runs just as smooth with the standard ignition module and HEI..... make of all this what you will, but if you install it and don't upgrade the coil, we'll prolly see ya sittin' along the road sometime in the next few months!

Understandably, Now the next question is Do I get a MSD or Excell, or AC-DELCO coil? If so Shoud I get newer plugs? For the price I might as well.

Dear Ken,

As for the reliability of the MSD box I can stand behind it all the way. I'm a tech here at MSD. If you have any trouble with the box at all or if you just want to send it in to get it tested let me know and I'll take care of it. If you have any questions you can get ahold of me at MSD at 915-855-7123. Just ask for Philip. Feel free to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected]. Good luck. By the way, if anyone else has any questions or problems feel free to give me a call also.

I added a 6A to my system when I bought my 82 but I did a lot of other things at the same time too. When I was done the truck ran great. Was it the MSD unit? Hard to tell......I guess it just comes down to how you like the way your truck runs once you've got it installed. I'm happy with the way it fires up now and think it was money well spent (even if I didn't get the great deal you ran across). Let us know how it runs once you get everything installed.

in reply to dorian saying he had to pump his pedal to starts his truck. with my blazer if you touched the gas AT ALL then she would not want to start right away without the box. with the box i could almost flood it out and start it just fine. my truck seems like it only turns half to 3/4 a turn before firing. this is with brand new helicoil MSD wires and the 6A Box. and a HEI or when i had my points.

I say it is worth it. it does not do much after 4k rpm but that is where my power really comes in is 600 to 4500 RPM. so it works great for me. and i notice less of the rich smell.
my truck does not run as rich with it. i am just too lazy to adjust my carb. also i didnt have a timing light at the time so my timing was off just under 6 degrees. but it ran fine. then i adjusted everything and walla. works GREAT.
then i took EVERYTHING apart

I have 2 6As. One on my LT1 93 Z28 and 1 on my 78 K5 400sb left over from racing days. For $40.00 you should just use it and be happy. I'd step up to R44TS Delco plugs or if you have a rebuilt motor with 9.5:1 or more compresiion I'd go with R43TS AC Delco plugs and definitely a new (MSD or ACCELL) Coil too. You will notice immediate idling and throttle response difference if you are attentive about it.

Hey Neil, I was wondering if you could give me some sort of
direction into installing the MSD?

I have the directions from the original package. But I'm still a little
nervise. I will deffinetly have my brother helpping with the install.
I'm still trying to decide witch coil to get MSD or Accell.
If you could let me know it would greatly appreciate it. If you decide to send me some info go ahead and Email it to me please.
Thanks KEN

<font color=purple> I would go with the MSD Blaster 2 and stay away from the Blaster 3 , I've heard too mant horror stories about the 3 .............If anybody could draw up a simple diagram on how to hook one up to a Blazer it would be helpful to those about to do the job .........the directions are confusing .......they cover everything from a chevy to a Boieng aircraft for god's sake !!!!

<font color=purple> BOW CHICKA BOW WOW !

The pedal pumping has to do with choke. I have to hit the pedal once to set the choke in the morning. Once the truck has been driven, no pump whatsoever is necessary.

No anti-theft measures on your truck? No pity when its stolen

In an 83 Blazer you should have a 5 pin module HEI distributor. You can always order the MSD part number 8875 direct plug in harness so no cutting or splicing has to be done. This will also ease your mind in the reliability department. If for some reason the box fails simply unplug the harness and plug the factory ignition system back in. You'll actually spend more time mounting the box then you will hooking it up with the 8875 harness. It's cheap too so money shouldnt be an issue if you're worried about that. Probably under $20.

Just ordered the wire harness, and coil for the MSD. YAAA Kragan Auto parts on the West cost was the cheepest. (part #8875 $14.99 and the coil part #8226 $44.99) I called a Hot Rod shop for parts and they wanted $24.99 for the harness. The best way to shop is let your fingers do the walking.
Rounding out my total to $108.99. Hopefully this weekend I can put it in.
I'll get back to yall later in the week with an update.

Dang this hobbie's FUN! ;)
