Whats the big deal with the
MSD 6-Off Road Ignition

Part No. 6470 ????

Is it any better to go with the Off Road over the A6?

84K5/350ci/440hp/450fpt/TH400/NP208...

I think the difference is vibration and water resistance.

PM Philly87 for further details. He's the MSD guy

more money

anti vibration / water prof gell.

NO built in rev control. and its over 120 bucks if you wana add it later. and the chip pills arnt cheep also for it.

otherwise its a 6 series box all the same.

As others have said, the MSD 6 offroad box has vibration and water resistance built into the box. I would save the extra coin and just go with the MSD 6A box and mount it in an area that won't get wet and I wouldn't even worry about vibration too much. If you really wanted to help with vibration though you can buy some rubber studded mounts to help it out.

as far as i recall thay all come with rubber feet standoff mounts .

When I bought my MSD 6A box it did not come with any kind of mounts whatsoever. Simply just the box with a hole in each corner to mount it.

thats cause your old :haha:and prob got it back in the 70's :doah:

who knows when thay started. but my new offroad box in the last year has them. my buddys 6al has them he got few months back. i got a 6al 8+ years ago that had them also for my first truck i built.

thay do list them seperate if you need them.

I run the MSD-6AL.... Never had a problem.

Like 4High said, mount it away from potential water damage.
Vibration hasn't seemed to have any effect on mine.

The 6-Offroad box is a completely potted unit therefore its vibration and water proof. This comes in handy if you're running the Baja 1000 or doing water crossings where the snorkel is above your head!

FYI - The Offroad box is obsolete and no longer available but you may find some old stock on a shelf somewhere if you find one.

The 6AL really is a great option as I've run one with no issues. I currently run a 6AL-2 prototype with no issues.

The 6AL however is obsolete now as well and will no longer be available so if you are buying a new unit I recommend the new Digital 6AL part number 6425. It's the best bang for your buck and it has a built in rev-limiter.

This unit has rotary dial switches in it to set the rev-limiter so the plug in modules are no longer needed.

It also comes with rubber mounts to absorb vibration so unless you'll be drowning the rig in water you'll be good to go. If you have any questions feel free...

How well does the Digtal 6 Plus box hold up to vibration and water. Picked one up for cheap. Mainly just going to run it for the benifet of the rev limters.

The Digital-6 Plus will hold up about the same as the 6AL will. I would deffinately mount it on the vibration mounts if you have them.
