MSD Ignition ?'s

Awesome Guys! Thanks a bunch for all the help. I was wondering why I stopped seeing adds for the A6-Offroad, Phill. Sounds like its the Digital 6AL part number 6425 for my rig.

Phil, do you have a part number for the rubber isolator mounts. I'm wanting to install those on my box for the extra vibration protection (you know, just in case). Maybe this is why my box I sent you a year or so ago to be repaired had a bad connection in it (the box was hard mounted to the fenderwell)?

Hey Phil,

Is it still possible to send in an old 6AL and get it fixed up?

I've got an Edelbrock Pro Flo2 sitting on top of the new motor (BBC454) that is going in the K5. I found it interesting that the wiring schematics specifically call out how to wire an MSD box into the new ignition. I don't currently have one, actually never have. Is it worth putting one in? What kind of benefits would I get on an MPFI system?

yes, call MSD RMA department and get an RMA number to send the unit in for repair. Call them at 915.857.5200 and ask for the RMA department.

the part number for the mounts is PN# 8823.

AJ-

All depends on the setup to be honest. If this is a stock motor you probably won't benefit much.

If the motor is built... i.e. cam, compression, etc... then throttle response, idle, starting, and power throughout the full rpm range are some of the benefits.

Hey Kert,

I can get you squared away on the 6AL. Give me a shout.

-Phil

Thanks Phil. I know we talked about it a long time ago. I kinda drop the ball on my own junk from time to time.

I'd like to say that it's built...
BBC 454 .030 over
Speedpro flat tops
Comp hydraulic roller cam and tappets (.485 lift)
Edelbrock Performer Aluminum heads (big oval intake ports)
10:1 compression
Edelbrock Pro Flo2 MPFI
Full length headers, 2" primaries, 3.5" collectors

Camquest says 515hp and 580tq

i bought a use msd 6-al with rev limiter... and also came with timing control unit.... can retard the timing 15 degrees.. so set timing @ 7.5 on dial and can go timing up or down 7.5.. believe it is more for nitrous but on a carb it can be handy too...
came with 3k,6k,7k,8k pills....
not gonna go.. and pills are not cheap $30-$40 for a kit.. kits are even and odds.. so what do you need? who knows.. so i bought a adjustable turn knob unit.. love it..
truck just got on the road and i need to get her dialed in...carb tweaks...

so far i love my setup.... you do remove the hei out of the distributor and put a bypass wire in...

my timing control unit

4.6k-6.8k rev - removes rev pill... used ebay $35 shipped

taboot topped off with msd distributor, 8.8wires...

for the offroad box.. i thought of it but i heard of heating issues... so i simply put mine in my glove box...
i have to clean it up some, shorten the wires and rev adjuster is not in picture...
