well the msd 6al must be defective... so guess im gonna have to call and get a rma number. Tried buying something off of ebay and keep it cheaper.. but should have bought new... think I have definitely figured that out now...

so I went backwards... cut the white wire on 6al going to timing control yellow....
then moved the 2 wire (green/violet) off of the timing control module.... and plugged it into the msd 6al just to cut the timing control out of the loop....
still no spark......

that way is even easier to wire....
I will most likely see how much for msd to repair it... so im assuming the guy that sold it knew it was bad but didnt tell me.. and it is my fault because it took 3 1/2 months for me to get to it....

Did you try the test on their troubleshooting page?

Did you try the test on their troubleshooting page?

resurrecting this to bring it up to date... as im going to get back to this thing...

I hooked up my msd all back up to a battery jump box.. the troubleshooting is easy..

all red wires to the hot on the jump box
all black to ground on jump box

take white wire and tap ground.. should get a spark from the white wire...

instead I got a relay clicking sound from the msd box...

so I rma'd it... and sent it in.. basically MSD you give them your CC # and all... well they fix it and mail it back.. no phone call or anything... they say between $10-$90 so I said... cool....

well dont know if yall remember.. but I bought it off of ebay... msd 6al comes ready to bolt into a v8. The guy I bought it from neglected to tell me it was in a 4.... so no biggie... I got it... drilled out the rivets.... found the wires you cut... removed the black plastic piece.. soldered the wires and shrink tubed them.... and used 2 bolts with nuts to close the 6al back up...

well all the instructions said was.....
burn in complete
ran no problems

well I figured that it was weird... wondering if they even did anything or did I hook it back up.. so I took it out of the box... they put a new black plastic piece with the wires that jumpt through it and new rivets...

so with that.. I wonder if when they got it in that if they even tested it or do they have new boards all complete and dropped one in and then tested it....

I only say that due to you dont know what kind of mood the guy was in.. you get a msd box in where your wires are removed and soldered together... well to replace that part means take the board out.. desolder the wires and solder a new one one... I dont think so..... I would just swap it out... so

hopefully thanksgiving morning or most likely black friday im going to tear into my truc and put this msd back in..... hopefully it fires up......

so stay tuned.....

at least you didnt buy a off road box from hell. what a big pile of sh!t. and msd can suck my truck nuts. there service/warrenty guys suck. if you want the whole story search my user name and msd.

hope yours is going to work man.

I had an MSD DIS II bad out of the box. replaced it and the 2nd one worked. Im iffy about any electronics and MSD as well. I had an Accell box in my mustang that went bad too. oh well.

well I put the msd 6al and timing control box back in the truck..... no worky...

ok this is weird..
I started the truck before I dug into this to have a base line.

with key on I have power at all parts that should...

but truck cranks and cranks... cant get it to work.... I have to be doing something wrong.....

I may remove the timing control from the equation again and try to get just the msd working... I dont think that will do it....

im stumped... ill have to call them and troubleshoot on monday or something.....

ok so here is the summary of what I did...

1. when I got the msd and timing control hooked them both up
2. couldnt get truck to run so took timing control out of the equation as the 6al was used and blue/red jumpers were cut
3. I soldered them back up and still couldnt get the truck to run..

rma'd the box...

they got it and tested good..returned to me..

1. when I got the msd and timing control hooked them both up
2. couldnt get truck to run so took timing control out of the equation... had spark !!! YAY
3. looked at the manual for the timing control.... it said it was setup to use points.. if using magnetic pickup cut the white jumper...
4. cut the jumper and advanced the timing... viola truck running....

I got the truck running but ugly... meaning wires are not soldered and ran nicely... so I have to redo all the wires.. mount the msd box and timing control.... but the timing control box is working as I could advanced and retard the timing from inside the truck!!!!!!!
